Ensures and monitors safety in the workplace (Harrisburg, PA and Northborough, MA) including the application and communication of health, safety and hazardous material standards, procedures and practices consistent with established company, environmental and government regulations

Primary Focus Areas

 

Strategy & Program Development

For this role strategy means the creation of the EHS organization, programs, resources and management system that drive TE’s overall EHS strategy and values within the employee’s area of responsibility.  Execution of the strategy will be through both individual and delegated tasks and programs within the organization.

Support the development, planning, implementation and maintenance of the EHS management system for the organization that meets the TE Safety Assessment for Effectiveness (SAFE) requirements, implements TE environmental sustainability programs, ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, TE policies and TE specifications and provides for continuous improvement in EH&S performance. Support the deployment of TE safety initiatives required by the TEOA Safety Tool for the organization, including behavior based safety (BBS), ergonomics programs, risk assessment, EHS training, machine guarding and employee engagement. Participate in the assessment, evaluation, quantification and prioritization of EHS risks for the organization and assist in the development of action plans for ensuring all significant risks are controlled and managed as part of the operational controls defined within the EHS management system and TEOA processes and procedures. Support the deployment of the EHS management system to ensure that it is effective.

 

EHS Structure & Program Management

Participate in the implementation of the organization’s EHS programs and support the delivery of the organization’s EHS goals and strategy.  Create and deliver training programs to ensure those involved in maintaining the organization’s EHS programs are aware of their responsibilities and how to discharge them. Provide training for all employees in support of achieving 100% engagement in EHS. Participate as an active member in teams for driving EHS improvements and managing EHS programs, including site safety and environmental committees; energy teams and; behavioral safety teams. Communicate with all levels in the organization on EHS to engage with, influence, and motivate the Plant Manager, managers, supervisors and employees.  Drive EHS initiatives to achieve the organization’s goals and strategy. Audit and evaluate the performance of the EHS management system.  Create and drive action plans to implement identified corrective actions. Create and use systems for monitoring and auditing EHS performance throughout the organization and provide timely, action oriented reports to management to ensure appropriate progress is maintained towards achieving the organization’s goals and strategy; and 100% compliance with TE policies, specifications and EHS legislation. Implement, maintain and use monitoring procedures for changes in EHS legislation applicable to the organization and ensure the EHS management system is updated to ensure compliance. Support those who are responsible for various components of EHS program management in the organization. Propose, implement and use organizational EHS metrics that drive improvements in EHS performance, e.g. near hit reporting, behavioral safety scorecards, ergonomic assessment, risk assessment data, environmental permit data, hazard reporting, etc. Continuous Process Improvement Participate in EHS inspections and audits. Facilitate incident investigations and advise management on appropriate corrective actions. Support and guide the management and direction of EHS programs. Participate in risk assessments, advising risk assessment teams on the assessment process; quantification of risks; prioritizing risks for action and effective risk control measures. Train, coach and mentor those involved in delivering the EHS programs and those with EHS responsibilities. Ensure all necessary monitoring and measurement equipment for EHS is available, maintained and calibrated. Use technical knowledge, motivation and influencing principles to ensure TE EHS values, standards and behaviors are maintained Drive process improvements that result in EHS performance improvements Develop and share best practices. Maintain a cadence of continuous improvement, effective problem solving and timely decision making

 

Establish & Track Metrics/ KPI's

Report all required EHS data to site, Business Unit management, Business Unit EHS and Corporate EHS using, as appropriate, the TE and Business Unit EHS reporting tools. Report all EHS data required by applicable legal regulations. Integrate reporting into existing business reporting systems to ensure employees, EHS teams, town hall meetings, etc. are informed of EHS performance, incidents, programs and initiatives Monitor and report organizational safety performance against the TEOA Safety Tool. Assess and report site safety performance quarterly using the Safety Assessment for Effectiveness (S.A.F.E.) tool. Evaluate and report environmental performance quarterly using the TE environmental assessment tools. Lead Continuous Learning and People Development Plan and deliver EHS training to create the competencies needed to deliver the EHS program. Advise management on EHS matters and implementation of regulations and TE policies, programs and specifications. Engage with management and employees to drive EHS programs and performance improvements. Support and guide employees to enable them to work safely, comply with regulations, TE policies and specifications and support environmental sustainability goals. Maintain current knowledge of EHS through continuous learning, which should include training and experiential learning. Develop skills of others with EHS responsibilities in the organization Promote the rewarding of behaviors and results that drive EHS improvements in the organization What your background should look like:

 

Skills, Experience and Education

Minimum 2+ years of EH&S experience required  Experience in a technical, engineering or manufacturing role preferred Demonstrated communication, collaboration and team building skills preferred Demonstrated ability in conducting audits and inspections of all aspects of EHS throughout a Site University degree or equivalent level of qualification in safety, health, or an environmental discipline If a degree is in a related technical or engineering field, but not specific to EHS, then a recognized post graduate qualification (e.g. Masters Degree, etc.) in an environmental or health and safety discipline is required.  An EH&S post graduate qualification may be substituted for EH&S competence gained through relevant and sufficient training and experience in excess of 2+ years.
