The EHS Specialist works under the direct supervision of the site EHS Manger to plan, direct, and implement Berry’s environmental, health and safety program to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Essential function(s)
Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.Prepare monthly accident summary reports.Assist with incident investigationsConduct and/or coordinates employee safety and environmental training programs.Perform daily safety walks and assist with identifying and correction of work place hazards and unsafe conditions.Work with and assist on-site teams with risk assessment.Assist in maintaining OSHA 300 Logs and relevant reports.
Assist in scheduling training courses/classes for in-house training opportunities.Understand Emergency Procedure and assist in scheduled drills.Assist in the Safety Committee and First Responder tasks.Assist in Management of Change procedures.Assist in workers compensation reporting.
Conduct incident reporting using the GDC incident-reporting database.Identify hazardous conditions/actions within the plant and recommend corrective measures.Investigate all accidents and property losses.Provide Supervisors/Group leaders with safety training information for monthly safety meetings.Organize and oversee all required safety training, i.e. fork truck, lockout, etc.Provide safety orientation to new employees using the New Hire Onboarding Process.Conduct chemical inventory and updating of SDS using Cornerstone Environmental, Health and Safety database.Assist in purchasing appropriate personal protective equipment.Perform other duties as assigned, in support of the EHS Framework under the direct supervision of the EHS manager. Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence people and drive change. Exceptional organizational skillsMust possess time management skills and have the ability to meet deadlines. Works well independently and in a group environment. Has the ability to deliver internal training effectively. Has critical thinking and problem-solving skills but is able to understand the departments overall objectives. Must be able to be entrusted with confidential information. Knowledge of working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.Education and Experience
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field strongly preferred.A minimum of one year of Safety Experience in an industrial setting preferred. Experience in the plastics industry helpful.Some knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other government regulations.
