Job Description
An invigorating opportunity is available in the Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department as we continue to assemble a world-class EH&S team at Gilead. To support the growth in operational footprint and headcount globally, the EH&S function is expanding its Corporate EH&S team to ensure compliance while developing a proactive EH&S culture via execution of initiatives associated with pursuit of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification at our headquarters in Foster City and Gilead sites globally. The successful candidate will be joining a highly motivated and cross-functional team to coordinate, author, and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for research, development and product materials produced by Gilead Sciences or Kite Pharma. You must be an independent self-starter with superior analysis, multitasking, and problem-solving skills for simple to complex situations. You will be relied upon as a subject matter expert in the areas for which you are responsible and should be eager to learn about and support other areas of the team when needed. This individual must possess strong interpersonal capabilities that facilitate the explanation of complex topics straightforwardly to educate and coordinate management, colleagues, and customers about Safety Data Sheet authoring, publication, and periodic management to enable Gilead and Kite global research and development operations.
General Responsibilities of EH&S Team MembersThe EH&S Manager – Corporate Safety Data Sheet Management will serve as an agent of change within their areas of responsibility while effectively ensuring compliance and proliferation of best practices throughout customer organizations.
Identify, document, and resolve potential gaps in EH&S programs.
Establish a positive rapport with staff, scientists, and management to ensure a high level of customer service and serve as a primary point of contact for customer groups.
Assist with implementing general elements of Global EH&S Programs across Gilead, as defined by local, state, and federal agencies.
Essential Duties and Job Functions of the RoleBased at the Gilead Foster City campus, the specific responsibilities for this role focus on collaborating with research and development colleagues to author and publish Safety Data Sheets in compliance with all current Global Harmonization Standard requirements for research and development materials as well as marketed products. Efforts will support operations global Gilead operations to ensure regulatory compliance as well as the advancement of EH&S culture while providing world-class customer service. This role requires ability to execute independently with periodic management and supervision. This role is located in Foster City, California. This role may support hybrid work opportunities (maximum of 1 day/week remote).
Safety Data Sheet Authoring and ManagementThe successful candidate will be expected to author, publish, and maintain all Safety Data Sheets created for Gilead research and development materials and marketed products to ensure compliance with all Global Harmonizations Standards for transport or handling.
Management and coordination of all Safety Data Sheet authoring for Gilead and Kite research and development materials and marketed products.
Oversight and management of SDS authoring software platform, software vendor and associated contracts.
Management of internal digital library of published SDS for customer use.
Management of EH&S Corporate Document library to facilitate alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 EH&S management systems.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills RequiredBasic Qualifications:High School Degree and Eleven Years Experience
OR
Associate’s degree and Nine Years Experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and Seven Years’ Experience
OR
Master’s degree and Five Years’ Experience
Degree in Toxicology/Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Sciences with progressive relevant experience in EH&S and industry preferred
Working knowledge of all relevant OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA regulatory requirements.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in interacting with regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated experience in working in collaborative teams.
Demonstrated experience with working under minimal supervision.
Demonstrated success with leading manager and peers without authority.
Anticipate needs and problems while creating and implementing solutions.
The ability to effectively shift priorities on short notice and work at a rapid pace is required.
Relevant experience may supersede degree requirements.
Experience PreferredUse and/or management of EH&S Management Software.
Proven effectiveness at improving processes to increase efficiency and customer service.
Knowledge and Skills PreferredProfessional Certification such as CSP or CIH.
Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry.
