EH&S Specialist

Job Summary
Location: Woodland, CA

This position is responsible for maintaining plant compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations. It is critical that this position has an understanding of permit requirements, the regulatory process, plant operations, and the ability to identify, define, investigate, and assess EH&S problems. Expertise in training, auditing, industrial hygiene, as well as hazard identification and correction are required. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, with functional reporting to the site Plant Manager, and Environmental & Safety departments in Ann Arbor, MI, the employee exercises independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures and practices. Results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures and practices.

Key Accountabilities
Insures operational and administrative compliance with all plant operating permits
Administers and maintains existing EH&S programs, policies, and procedures as well as developing specific programs as needed
Provides guidelines, training presentations, and operational assistance to plant staff
Interfaces with regulatory agencies and outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Administers Industrial Hygiene related programs
Prepares and submits documentation to support plant compliance
Organizes EH&S related documentation (i.e. quarterly EDRs, medical monitoring, IH data, reports, inspections, audits, etc) and EH&S related initiatives and cooperative compliance programs
Conducts plant audits to assess compliance with regulations and DTEES expectations
Continuously evaluates and identifies where EH&S compliance activities must be focused
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Must have a high school diploma or GED and five or more years of industry experience or specialized skills paired with multiple years of experience

Other Qualifications
Experience with continuous emissions monitoring systems and supporting software
Knowledge of applicable codes of Federal Regulations requirements
Experience leading a team, as well as the proven ability to work effectively within a team environment
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the assigned areas of responsibility.
Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions (including performance management, compensation and development)

• The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
•Additional physical requirements for this position are: ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet in height, ability to climb stairs up to 5 flights at a time, ability to wear negative-pressure respirators for up to 4 hours a day, ability to perform light work in hot environments (100 degrees F) for up to 1 hours/day, ability to wear protective equipment (including, but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses or goggles, flame-resistant coveralls, gloves) for up to 10 hours/day, ability to work in a noisy environment (with hearing protection), ability to walk/stand (with occasional breaks) for up to 7 hours/day, ability to work at heights (protected by guardrails and/or personal fall arrest equipment), ability to work in an environment with exposures to magnetic and/or electrical fields, wood dust, coal dust, coke oven emissions, organic vapors, and/or metal fumes (all within OSHA limits).

Working Conditions
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a project site. In the course of working at the project site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the project site.
