Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated EHS Assistant responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and supporting the compliance process. The role involves practicing safe working techniques, providing continuous improvement efforts, and reinforcing safety policies, guidelines, and procedures. The EHS Assistant will perform and contribute to training plans, maintain and update SOPs, and provide advice and guidance on EHS programs. This position also oversees hazardous chemicals and waste storage, ensures regulatory compliance, and conducts risk assessments.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate regulatory programs and support the compliance process.Practice safe working techniques and reinforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures.Perform and contribute to training plans through employee orientations and emergency response training.Maintain and update SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment.Provide advice and guidance on EHS programs at all levels of employment.Review and maintain site preparedness and emergency plans, including LOTO, EAP, and HAZCOMM.Oversee hazardous chemicals and waste storage, ensuring regulatory compliance, proper disposal, and documentation.Conduct risk assessments and analysis, develop corrective action plans, and perform audits to ensure effectiveness.Complete permit applications and work with environmental and safety groups to ensure compliance.Coordinate inspections by regulatory agencies and ensure corrective actions are followed.Meet all permits, reporting requirements, and audits promptly for environmental and safety compliance.Conduct regular site inspections in coordination with Operations and QA.Plan, schedule, and conduct safety, orientation, and quality training for employees.Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation.Partner with HR to ensure employee training records and Worker's Compensation issues are maintained.Lead and investigate workplace accidents and incidents, compiling accurate reports and following through on OSHA incidents.Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies to ensure compliance.Assist in emergency response, safety response, and first aid guidance.Stay updated on environmental and safety regulations that affect the company.Ensure all personnel, including temporary employees and contractors, comply with company policies and safety requirements.Other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsSafetyHealth & safetyReportingFood manufacturingEHSSafety checklistPlant walkthroughsCommunication with upper managementProactive on the floorChecking fire extinguishers, signs, and onsite injuriesOSHAAuditEnvironmental safetyAdditional Skills & QualificationsBS/BA in Environmental Health and Safety discipline or equivalentThree or more years of experience in an EH&S positionCPR/FA/AED certifiedManufacturing experience is preferredBilingual in Spanish is a plusWhy Work Here?

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing environment, which includes strong food smells and hot conditions. The role requires adherence to GMPs, food defense and safety, HACCP, and QA standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gilroy, California.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00
