EHS Engineer

 

Job Summary

 

This position partners with the EHS Manager to ensure facility compliance with all government regulations, corporate policies, and corporate objectives regarding environmental standards and employee health and safety.  Serves as a resource in developing and implementing processes that promote the OSHA VPP initiative including worksite analysis, hazard prevention & control, employee involvement, and safety & health training. Coordinates with all functional front-line management and supervision.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

(25%) Administer the facility’s training system.  Identify training needs and develop training content. (25%) Conduct or lead training in applicable OSH areas & maintain recordkeeping systems. Recognize hazards. Address employee OSH concerns. Conduct site inspections and audits. Perform sampling and monitoring. (15%) Work with EHS manager and other site leaders to ensure organization’s occupational safety and health (OSH) compliance. (15%) Implement corrective actions from findings generated by both internal and external audits.  Manage capital and expense projects for EHS compliance, risk reduction, and cost saving initiatives. (10%) Manage emergency response incidents including the onsite First Aid Attendants.  Also, works with Human Resources to manage workers’ compensation claims and return to work programs. (10%) Supervise and lead Safety technicians and EHS interns.

 

Education and Experience Profile

 

Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science/Management or related field or an equivalent level of experience required. Three years of relevant work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Safety Professional (CSP) or Engineer preferred.

 

Required Skills

 

Technical/Functional Competencies:

Ability to read, interpret and apply government, safety and industrial hygiene regulations Six Sigma/ Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. Experience with modern factory management techniques desired (Ex. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Demand flow technologies, Design of Experiment, etc.) Strong business acumen, analytical skills and ability to think strategically Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to influence others sharing one’s point of view or position in discussion. Demonstrated ability to be a team player and self-starter.

Leadership/Cultural Competencies:

Work Environment:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and non-climate controlled manufacturing facility.

 

Must be able to travel domestically 5% of time and internationally 5% of time.
