EHS Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution At least 1 year of environmental, health or safety experience in a manufacturing environment. This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety or health discipline from an accredited institution 3 years of environmental, health or safety experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications

Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for an EHS Engineer at our Niles, OH location. Our passionate commitment to EHS provides the successful candidate with an excellent environment in which to work and the leadership commitment and support to deliver results.   Under the direction of the EHS Manager, this position supports determining, planning, and coordinating environmental and health/safety activities to ensure regulatory compliance, maintain the EHS management system, and protect human health and the environment.This position is a key member of the location’s EHS team and is highly visible position in the plant and Business Unit. The position provides an excellent platform for potential future growth to the successful candidate.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providing technical expertise in areas such as chemical release, stormwater and industrial wastewater management, waste disposal, proper characterization, recycling efforts, and air permitting and compliance. Assisting in the preparation of federal, state, and local permit applications and supporting the implementation of related programs. Conducting environmental testing on air (ambient and process), water (drinking, storm, and waste), and solid wastes. Analyzing and reporting results for action. Monitoring and documenting source and effluent emissions for air, wastewater, and waste streams to identify trends and recommend improvements to environmental systems. Supporting Title V reporting and permit renewal processes, including activities related to Ozone Depleting Substance compliance. Streamlining data collection and reporting requirements to improve efficiency while ensuring adherence to regulations. Collaborating with team members to provide technical insights and produce necessary documentation for environmental activities. Contributing to the planning of facility projects focused on environmental improvements and cost savings initiatives. Offering input on engineering standards, equipment, processes, and procedures to align with environmental objectives. Participating in environmental programs such as field sampling, emissions testing, and ISO 14001 Certification activities. Staying informed about new and existing environmental regulations and communicating potential impacts to plant operations. Supporting the development and maintenance of studies, programs, and databases to evaluate environmental impacts and propose corrective actions. Representing the organization on environmental matters when required and assisting with site-wide remediation efforts. Contributing to the tracking and management of environmental budgets to ensure effective cost control. Performing other related responsibilities as needed.

Working Conditions

This position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is performed in a shared work environment divided between the outdoors, the shop floor, and in an interior office space. Possible exposure to hazardous materials in this position requires wearing full PPE, at times, to protect from such chemicals.  This position requires moderate physical activity, such as walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time, as well as kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching, climbing ladders, and some lifting.  This position also requires a willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule. Additionally, it requires that the incumbent retains active membership and engages in regular training as part of the Emergency Response team.
