EHS Manager

Job Description:

The EHS Manager is responsible for leading all environmental, health, safety, and security (EHS&S) company and regulatory compliance matters for two adjacent facilities in the High Point, NC area. In this role, you will serve as a key member of the site leadership team. Key professional requirements include EHS&S technical expertise, OSHA Process Safety Management experience, Security and Transportation regulations, as well as professional capability to understand and manage complex EH&S compliance and risk-related matters in all disciplines. Strong interpersonal skills are required for working and communicating with associates at all levels of the organization.

As our EHS Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

Strategic

Work directly with manufacturing leadership, site EH&S team, supervisors, and front line workers in operations, maintenance, warehousing, office environments to develop and implement a site strategy for improving and sustaining EH&S regulatory compliance.Maintain and regularly review global, regional, and site EH&S data and performance metrics to drive site improvement.Monitor EH&S regulatory developments to understand applicability, and lead implementation and compliance assurance processes.Provide leadership support for effective implementation of EHS&S standards and programs at the site level.Communicate EH&S progress, performance, and key improvement opportunities.Drive operational accountability to foster a proactive EHS&S culture.

 Compliance and Standards Implementation

Lead site implementation and continuous improvement of the Responsible Care Management System (RC14001).Lead site regulatory compliance effort associated with all applicable EH&S disciplines.Lead and participates in the site implementation and compliance efforts for the OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management.Accountable for implementing all company EHS&S standards, policies, and internal focus initiatives.

 Auditing and Management Systems 

Coordinate the effective planning and execution of assessments for EHS&S regulatory compliance and internal EHS&S standards at the site level.Implement and support self-audits, internal audits, and third party audits at the site and periodically other sites.Develop resolution of audit recommendations through partnership with regional EH&S and company subject matter experts.Provide support for implementing and sustaining EH&S management systems.

 Leadership and Capability Building

Conduct regular EHS&S performance reviews with site leadership and supervision and prioritize key focus areas and efforts to determine and achieve site EH&S goals and objectives.Perform independently and exercise mature judgment in determining regulatory, technical and operational objectives for assignments/projects derived from key site EH&S aspects.Develop functional EH&S capability within the site organization through training, coaching, and mentoring.Develop and oversees training for hourly production workforce. (Includes record keeping and auditing).

Serve as a role model for providing quality and swift resolutions to operational EH&S issues.Secure and leverage leadership commitment and support for integrating sustainable EH&S solutions into core processes and decision making.Manage change effectively, and champion continuous improvement.Earn and maintain the trust of colleagues and co-workers internal and external to the site.Develop credibility with the site customers, key stakeholders, and across the Axalta organization.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelors degree in engineering, science, or safety related discipline.5+ years EHS&S experience in a manufacturing environment.Practical experience in one or more of the following areas:Environmental – Multimedia environmental compliance (air, water, waste) and relevant federal (EPA), state (MI DEQ) and location regulations.Occupational Safety & Health – Occupational safety (OSHA), industrial hygiene, ergonomics, general occupational health managementProcess Safety Management – OSHA Process Safety Management Standard (29 CFR 1910.119).Project management and leadership skills – Ability to prioritize, balance and manage multiple tasks simultaneously across multiple sites, adjust to changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information.Experience influencing and collaborating, communicating effectively across teams, audiences, and situations.Experience identifying critical path issues; trend data and advise relative to key improvement areas for EHS&S performance and compliance.Ability to travel approximately 10% to other company locations, training, auditing, etc.

Preferred:

Experience in the chemical, paints, coatings, paper, or pharmaceutical manufacturing industries strongly preferred.Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or ability and willingness to obtain within 18 months preferred.Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.Ability to bring your sense of ethics and integrity to work, including the ability to work on confidential matters.
