EHS Specialist 1   

Essential function(s)

Support management’s efforts to ensure compliance with all EHS program initiatives and expectations and to stay in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local lawsFacilitate applicable EHS programs (LOTO, Fall Protections, IH, Air, Water, Waste regulations, etc.) and document compliance activities through the EHS Calendar according to regulatory deadlinesAct as the main point of contact for local audits (internal & external) to ensure compliance per EHS regulationsConduct standard and routine compliance inspections for applicable onsite programs (e.g. HazWaste; AQMD, storm water; wastewater, etc.)Ensure any audit findings (internal & external) are documented, monitored, and completed as assigned.Prepare compliance EHS reports and ensure permit conditions are followedMaintain records per internal record-retention policies and ensure compliance with all EHS-related federal, state, and local record-retention requirementsRespond, facilitate, and/or conduct incident investigations, including injuries and near-miss events, to ensure internal processes are followed. Drive corrective and preventive actions to closure as assigned.Conduct and manage risk assessments and mitigations processes related to jobs or tasks performed by employees. Suggest strategies to mitigate risk.Collaborate with the onsite ergonomist to promote ergonomics and propose ergonomic changes in each department.Provide accurate metrics per required deadlines (daily, weekly, monthly) to report to site leaders and corporate-based reporting systems (GenSuite; MORs, etc.)Present EHS data to all employees at all levels of the organizationTrain and assist others to complete safety & compliance responsibilities (new hire/temp orientation, audits, cardinal rules, etc.)Maintain EHS-related training records per retention policiesSupport the facility with 6S initiatives as required.Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the EHS Strategic and Tactical facility Plan.Lead the Safety Committee and meet monthly.Manage and track all Workers' Compensation cases and liaise with the Workers' Compensation insurer.

The EHS Specialist requires the ability to communicate and share the tone for safety. The EHS Specialist will lead by example and seeks out opportunities and techniques to further this goal. The EHS Specialist uses persuasion to gain the support and cooperation from stakeholders, superiors, colleagues, subordinates and other parties to achieve a desired course of action consistent with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.

EHS Scientific and Technical Expertise:

The EHS Specialist actively seeks out and improves environment, health & safety and regulatory knowledge. The EHS Specialist works with superiors and managers to analyze and prioritize critical problems accurately and quickly; and is highly collaborative. The EHS Specialist works with superiors to analyze data, recognize meaningful test results, interpret results, and present the results in an appropriate way to different types of audiences.

Time Management:

The EHS Specialist needs to use time to their advantage, needs to be able to manage a variety of given tasks, avoid procrastination, prioritize tasks in line with regulatory, department, company deadlines and goals. This includes day-to-day tasks, multi-phase projects, investigations, along with internal and external customer requests.

Communication:

Effective communication is a critical skill for the EHS Specialist in order to communicate applicable Safety and Health regulatory requirements and company policies, procedures, work instructions, and much more. A common form of communication comes in the form of training. Ability to deliver internal safety training and effectively as determined by the results of post training quizzes. Communication on EHS topics is of the highest caliber; clear and accurate.

 Task Oriented:

The EHS Specialist is a task driven position. This means the position is dedicated to fulfilling the tasks provided by the Compliance/EHS Department. For example: Timely completion of tasks that align with the facility goals; implements reliable, effective metrics to measure outcomes; models accountability; thinks of innovative ways to spread awareness of Company and EHS Policies and best practices.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $59100.00 to $88700.00 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
