Your Role:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all environmental and safety programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory changes that may impact the organization, conducts inspections to verify that equipment and processes meet both business and regulatory standards, and assists in training employees on departmental procedures. Additionally, the EHS Specialist ensures adherence to safety guidelines. This position provides dedicated site support for all facilities in Madison and Verona, WI. Specific responsibilities include:

 

Maintain proficiency in regulatory compliance, including (OSHA, CAA, RCRA, CWA, SPCC, DOT, HAZWOPER), Fire Protection, Hazardous Materials and other related laws and regulations. Ensures all tasks are performed safety and efficiently in accordance with local regulations and corporate guidelines.Support regulatory reporting requirements for air, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste, TRI, Tier II, etc.Manage and train for the emergency preparedness and response related to; fire, chemical, medical and nature caused events.Support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 programs.Assist with training other employees in departmental processes such as hot work and line breaks, perform incident investigations, ergonomic assessments, risk assessments, and site metric reporting.Monitor EHS related materials at designated locations, such as PPE, ergonomics, air quality, fire safety, and waste disposal.Assists in developing a sustainable safety culture by engaging the workforce through hazard recognition process and providing clarification on EHS procedures.  Implementation of programs to reduce risk to employees, contractors, and the environment.This position has the authority to make and apply labels and sign DOT hazardous materials Shipping Certifications.Ships all articles, including hazardous materials, in compliance with applicable governmental regulations. This includes packing, marking, labeling, and documentation.Monitor waste streams by documenting quantity and size of materials for shipment.Effectively organize and maintain the storage of hazardous waste. Carefully move material in a timely manner to storage or designated areas. This may involve operating a forklift, pallet mover, drum dolly, or other similar equipment.Conduct and coordinate site inspections, including (internal, regulatory, and customer audits, as well as inspections on-site safety equipment. Comply to the personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements as outline by company policy.Maintain and/or calibrate EHS related equipment, such as PIDs and gas monitors.Collect air and/or surface samples for industrial hygiene and Grade D breathing air verifications.Submit safety data sheet requests to the Product Safety group, review and resubmit, if necessary.Maintain a positive attitude, treat others with respect, and exemplify Millipore Sigma’s values and high impact culture tenets.

 

Physical Attributes:

 

Work with highly potent / hazardous materials.Climb, bend, and walk.Work in different temperature environments. Lift up to 50 pounds.Manually move full 55-gal drums with drum dolly.Wear PPE including emergency response equipment.

 

Who You Are
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or other EHS discipline, OR Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other life science discipline.3+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge in environmental health and safety compliance.Knowledge of laws and regulations enforced by OSHA, USEPA and WDNR.Experience with industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring, hazardous materials, and chemistry lab experience is beneficial.Proficient in oral and written communication.Mechanical and technical aptitude.Possess a high degree of internal motivation.Capable of multi-tasking while paying close attention to detail.
