EHS Specialist I
**Job Description Summary** Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that ensure the overall safety and health of employees and that enables compliant business operations. Environmental Health & Safety Specialist 1 position to administer and implement Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures in collaboration with the EH&S Supervisor. This position follows established procedures to support BD personnel in order to maintain compliance with facility/corporate EHS policies, agency regulations, and best management practices. This individual works on problems of limited scope where analysis of procedures and policies is necessary to select appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining satisfactory solutions. Individual will perform routine tasks with instruction and supervision, and apply company policies and procedures in order to plan and accomplish goals. Become a **maker of possible** with us. **Job Summary** This position will be responsible for providing support to the safety programs at the RTP site. This person will work closely with both production and maintenance personnel to identify hazards and develop solutions to minimize or eliminate risk of injury. The role also involves supporting training, compliance reporting, record keeping, investigations, audits, regulatory inspections, emergency response, and other duties as assigned. **Responsibilities** + Support the Safety department by conducting incident investigations, writing reports, and proposing corrective actions; review records to ensure all incidents are properly recorded in accordance with regulations + Perform ergonomic assessments to reduce employee exposure to potentially harmful physical factors + Conduct audits to ensure all required safety documentation is complete and up-to-date + Provide guidance on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) + Administer medical evaluations including audiograms, pulmonary function testing, respirator fit tests, and other medical screenings as necessary + Develop and maintain written safety procedures and review existing written procedures to ensure they remain current + Train employees on applicable policies and procedures + Compile statistics on injuries, illnesses, and near misses to track progress on safety goals + Assist with maintaining regulatory compliance, including managing documentation requirements and communicating changes to applicable regulations + Coordinate with the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) manager to determine priorities for addressing identified hazards + Maintain a safe working environment and promote a culture of safety awareness among employees **Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred + Minimum of one year of relevant experience in an industrial setting preferred + Experience with ergonomics principles, industrial hygiene sampling techniques, and/or accident investigation + Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical information effectively + Strong organizational and analytical skills + Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite + Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing occupational health and safety + Ability to travel occasionally within North America (approximately <10%) At BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry.
