Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist II – GTFSD San Diego Position Summary: The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting routine EHS activities, including scheduling and facilitating training sessions, managing related documentation, and collecting, verifying, and maintaining compliance records. Key responsibilities include organizing and maintaining hazardous waste manifest records, distributing personal protective equipment (PPE), and overseeing the hardcopy and digital safety data sheet (SDS) library. The EHS Specialist also monitors the collection and upkeep of periodic EHS inspection checklists, investigates reported safety hazards, and ensures their closure, along with other related tasks. Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities: + Works to develop, implement and maintain Environmental, Health, and Safety programs/procedures + Performs audits and safety inspections of work environments, processes and operations in compliance with government regulations and industry standards + Ensures all applicable registrations, permits and licenses are in place and current; disposes of hazardous materials per regulations + Leads the Safety Star Point Team, analyzes hazardous situations and identifies alternative courses of action, while empowering members to achieve departmental safety goals and objectives + Participates in developing and implementing training programs for employees + Gathers data for the purpose of identifying, reducing, or eliminating sources of pollutants and/or hazards that affect the work environment and health of the employees + Other responsibilities as assigned + Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance + Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary Qualifications: + Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations + Years of Experience: Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through three or more years of related experience. + Extensive knowledge of industry Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations/standards + Solid knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and hazardous waste disposal procedures + Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize with changing situations. + Ability to solve complex problems and make decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information + Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to drive tasks to completion. + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools We offer a comprehensive and competitive total compensation package. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $81,226 - $131,131.
