EHS Specialist- Yates

Position Description

Primary purpose:

This position is a key member of the local leadership team that is tasked with maintaining, fostering and supporting a safe work environment, safe work practices and environmental stewardship.  Although this position will report directly to the Yates Operations Manager, there are several other key relationships that are critical for success including additional CO2 Asset Operations, Drilling, CO2 Corporate EHS, and Operations Support Group.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Promote the Company’s EHS philosophy and culture.Promote Behavior Based Safety principles.Support the CO2 Business Unit with compliance of federal, state, and local safety regulations.Demonstrate an understanding of OSHA regulations and a working knowledge of EPA regulations.Routine field visits to identify, report and correct safety concerns and procedural noncomplianceConduct at least two rig inspections every week including the completion of the Rig Inspection Checklist for each visitManage the integrity of safety equipment for proper working order, and coordinate required inspections, maintenance, calibration/testing, and replacement with Field Operations, as required.Lead and/or facilitate incident investigations to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actionsSupport operating budgets by recognizing and reporting on key EHS driversDevelop, coordinate, and provide training and guidance on EHS procedures and processesMaintain and facilitate compliance with KM management systems (incident reporting database, computerized maintenance management system, learning management system, management of change, etc…)Assist Operations with Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Pre Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR).Collaborate with team members in generating ideas to work safer and more efficientlyProvide input to achieve the safe implementation of projectsHelp develop and participate in ICS drills Perform the duties of Safety Officer during incident responseCarry a company-provided cell phone and respond during working and non-working hours.Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:Education:  High school diploma or GED.Experience/Specific knowledge:  Exposure to the oil and gas industry.


Certifications, licenses, registrations:

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.OSHA certification preferred, not required.  Must be willing to pursue certification commensurate to the level of safety experience and education.
Competencies, skills, and abilities:Ability to instill a strong (Zero Incident) safety culture in workforce (both KM employees and associated contractors)Excellent interpersonal and persuasive presentation skillsAbility to represent Asset Operations’ EHS issues and concerns to the broader CO2 EHS team and senior managementAble to work in a fast-paced environment, frequently under pressure, on multiple tasksExperience with Microsoft applications and well versed in making/generating presentationsDemonstrate a highly competent working knowledge of technology, applications, terminology, and procedures required of the job function.Accurately and promptly load and verify data, and generate reports based on standard procedures.Strong prioritization and planning skillsOperate company vehicle during daily activitiesAbility to work with others, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, and follow work rules.


Physical demands:

Extended hours during upset conditions or incident managementWorking after hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call, as neededWork outside while wearing required PPE in all weather conditions as neededClimbing, walking, and liftingLive within a 30 min response time to the Yates field (Iraan, Sheffield, McCamey or Rankin)Drive company vehicleRoutine commutes to Midland and other CO2 assets.
Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:Incident investigation (root cause analysis)OSHA Standard training and certifications (CSHO)Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Other responsibilities:The Yates field contains a high concentration of H2S and other hydrocarbon gases which are flammable and may be explosive under certain conditions.  The successful candidate must be able to convey both the appropriate respect for and confidence to work in this type of operating environment.
