The Opportunity:
Avantor is seeking an EHSS&S Analyst II (Environmental Health, Safety, Sustainability & Security Analyst II) for the Puerto Rico location.Responsible for the development and execution of safety and environmental compliance programs. Coordinates and participates in the adherence to all regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, Federal, State, and Local ordinances in relation to chemical hazards & EHS&S compliance. Manages and maintains compliance programs to ensure adherence to regulatory conformity, quality, proper methods, and practices.
Under minimal supervision: Direct contracted and maintenance personnel on installing, repairing, or troubleshooting facility-related equipment and systems; including but not limited to doors and windows, roofs, flooring, environmental temperature control and ventilation, wiring, facility control panels, security systems, lighting, waste management, and process utility systems. Oversee the reconfiguration and alteration of existing facilities to improve plant production. Prepare bids and cost/design analysis of various projects as directed. Coordinate with various departments and outside contractors in developing design criteria.
Implement and oversee design solutions that conform to government regulations. Manage engineering firm contracts for specific expertise and local code/regulation experience.
What we’re looking for
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or similar science degree) or degree in Construction plus 3 years of experience
Experience: 5+ years of Environmental, Health, and Safety work experience
Train the Trainer experience
Experience in an Operational environment preferred Hazwoper, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10hr- 30hr, preferred.
Fully bilingual (English and Spanish)
Driver’s License a must
Knowledge of shop skills
Strong oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Possess leadership ability to develop and maintain programs
Must have the ability to work within a team environment and take initiative
Ability to make recommendations and decisions to effectively lead the site EH&S program compliant with company policies procedures, and/or government law
A strong mechanical and electrical background is a plus
Experience with technical documentation

Assure compliance with Regulatory Agencies, governing bodies, and certification bodies as it relates to EHS&S. Environmental, Health & Safety & Security (EHS&S). This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, EPA/RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, and DOT/IATA.
Develop/Improve and execute Safety Programs for the site.
Responsible for site security.
Ensure compliance at site EH&S regarding OSHA, CSAT, EPA, and other government agencies as assigned.
Consult with associates and supervisors as to specific safety, chemical, or handling concerns. Perform JHA/JSAs for specific tasks. Remediate issues.
Learn and understand SDS regulations and cross-train to author SDSs when required for the position.
Lead company internal safety audits and improvements to the safety program.
Respond to and investigate company incidents and accidents in accordance with OSHA requirements.
Complete and review existing regulatory registrations and permits that are local, state, or federal.
Lead the Emergency Response Team and administer emergency response supplies.
Advise management on current, new, and proposed regulations.
Provide regulatory path and strategy for existing and new production applications.
Conduct safety training, including, forklift, respirator fit, blood-borne pathogen, etc.
Verify that new equipment complies with safety regulations and requirements.
Administer and maintain ID badges, security cameras, and keyless entry systems.
Ensure site wastewater compliance.
Attend safety council meetings to ensure discounts are maintained.
Ensure timely updates and filing of corporate safety summaries. Facility
Train and direct all contractors performing facilities-related work
Build and maintain contractor relationships to address facilities-related repairs and maintenance.
Pursue bids and quotes for maintenance service plans for process utility and facility systems and equipment.
Scope and execute capital projects for facilities-related improvements/repairs
Manage after-hours contractor and emergency calls.
Uphold and implement Avantor Safety Procedures and High Hazard permits for associates and contractors.
Liaise with local, state, and federal agencies for facilities-related systems, including but not limited to backflow preventers, fire suppression systems, building inspections and permits, and utility operating permits.
Communicate with the property management group for leased buildings.
Issue radios and other site-wide personnel communication devices.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance for material handling and personnel work equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and knuckle boom lifts.
Conduct facility inspections to ensure good housekeeping standards.
Investigate injury and incident reports where an incident is related to engineering personnel or facility/equipment-related issues.
Identify opportunities for facility improvements, innovations, and expansion.
Manage invoices and purchase requisitions.
May direct Contractors on aspects of various projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Conditions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Although the associate primarily works in an office environment, while performing the duties of this job, the associate can be exposed to an industrial warehouse environment. The associate may work near moving mechanical machinery and/or vehicles and the noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedents are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems. A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis.
Work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 50 lbs. Associates may have contact with alcohol, silicon oil, CO2, liquid nitrogen, acetone, and paint (spray) among other chemicals.
