Job DescriptionThe EHSS Specialist provides Environmental Health & Safety guidance and support with the objective to maintain safety excellence and add value to the business. This role executes data collection, compilation and reporting in the area of Environmental Health & Safety, assists in supporting the Distribution Manager, Operations leadership, and facility teams in effectively managing the requirements set forth by governmental or company regulations, and assists in planning and implementing organization environmental, safety, health and security programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through collaboration with facility personnel of all levels.
Position would support two distribution facilities located in Howe IN and LaGrange IN with an estimated 70/30 time commitment split.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in planning and implementing environmental and safety policies, procedures and programs in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.Assists in leading the facility to world class safety achievements with a focus on behavioral initiatives ensuring all established metrics are achieved.Directs, leads, and observes associate team members in the safe working behaviors and expectations for the site. Conducts visual management for procedure and program support as necessary independently or in conjunction with leadership teams.Maintains & completes data entry and analysis as necessary for Environmental Health & Safety metrics and information.Identifies areas of improvement in all areas of environmental, safety, health and security and creates plans to execute the improvements.Provides training to associates and contractors on a variety of Environmental Health & Safety topics. Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.Assists the investigation of safety incidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.Compiles data necessary to aid in submitting environmental, safety and security reporting to regulatory agencies.Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion. This includes hearing testing information, medical files, personnel records as needed, etc.Maintains all environmental and safety records to include, but not limited to regulatory and training requirements.Maintains chemical inventory and updates MSDS online system with current Safety Data Sheets (SDS).Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures and provides feedback to associates on corrective actions necessary.Performs other duties as requiredQualificationsBachelor's degree in related field or commensurate experience is required.A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in environmental, safety and health in a distribution/manufacturing environment required.Trained in handling hazardous waste, or the ability to become certified within 6 months.Must possess a business orientation and interactive skills to support the management team and function as a business partner.Strong communications skills (verbal and written).Strong organization skills.Group facilitation and presentation skills.Strong employee relations and change management skills.Demonstrated success in handling multiple priorities.Additional InformationAt Fortune Brands, we support the overall health and wellness of our associates by offering comprehensive, competitive benefits that prioritize all aspects of wellbeing and provide flexibility for our teammates’ unique needs.
