EI&C Technologist

Responsibilities 

Preparing EI&C (Electrical, Instrumentation and Control) documentation including; Control Panel Schematic, Instrument Block Diagram, Single Line Diagram, Logic Diagram, Control Narrative, etc. conforming to customer expectation and engineering standards. Participating in project team meetings and discussions. Work closely with project team to plan EI&C and related tasks for assigned projects. Working closely with EI&C Lead, coworkers and project team to complete EI&C related project documentation within the project timelines. Design project specific PLC and HMI programming to project or internal programming design standards. Review and design EI&C documentation to customer specifications and internal Engineering standards. Researching and selecting suitable components to complete control panel designs. Supporting the project team with Instrumentation selection and configuration. Assistance in preparation of various project documents. Completing Shop; electrical installation, factory acceptance testing, pre-commissioning and components testing. Domestic and International travel to customer sites to complete Site Acceptance Testing/Commissioning and troubleshooting services. Site coordination by leading and/or guiding customer site personnel/trades to support project completion. Preparing technical reports detailing site activities, commissioning records and troubleshooting results.  Performing on-site classroom and field training for operations and maintenance staff. Building and maintaining positive relationships with site personnel. Uphold all company policies, procedures and best practices. Comply with Carmeuse ISO requirements. Ensure and enforce compliance to all company, client and legislated Safety policies and procedures. Any additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Basic requirements 

5+ years of related experience. Engineering Technician or Technologist related to Electrical, Controls or Mechatronics.  CET (Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist) an asset. Strong technical aptitude and creative problem-solving ability. Detail oriented. Excellent communication skills. Domestic and International travel. Must maintain valid drivers license and valid passport. Bi or Multi Lingual considered an asset.

Knowledge

Ability to read and understand engineering documentation. Strong Knowledge of EI&C design software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical) and Programming software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk View, others). Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and National Electrical Code an asset.

Work environment

Typical hours:  37.5 hour work weeks – hours vary due to work. Additional hours may be required. Office and shop environment. Hybrid office / remote work arrangement. Domestic and international travel to project/customer sites (Industrial/Municipal Setting).
