Overview Employee will perform work requiring an intermediate degree of skill in installing, testing, reading, repairing and maintaining electric meters and auxiliary equipment associated with the Electric Meter Division of the Meter Assets Department. Responsibilities GENERAL DUTIES The normal duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. 2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Meterman "B" and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar. 3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities. 4. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees. 5. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. 6. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications. 7. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 8. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 9. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. 10. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required. 11. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. SPECIFIC DUTIES Duties which may include, but are not limited to: 1. Employee will perform all the duties of Meter Technician "C". 2. Employee will learn to shop test, field test, install and repair single phase and polyphase meters to include current transformer installations. 3. Employee will learn to read commercial electric and gas meters with and without demand attachments. 4. Employee will learn to make customer complaint inspections and check wiring for grounds. 5. Employee will learn to be proficient in the installation and testing of measurement instruments and devices. Employee will learn to inspect meters to determine if they have been tampered with, and if so will notify Revenue Protection immediately. Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS 1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment. 2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required. 3. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work. 4. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced. 5. Employee must have a valid state driver's license, good driving record and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles. 6. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. 7. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 8. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor. 9. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications. 10. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports. 11. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches. 12. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her. 13. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression. 14. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results. 15. Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Louisville Gas and Electric Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs. SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 1. Employee must meet and be proficient in all qualifications of Meter Technician "C". 2. Employee must have at least twelve (12) months experience as a Meter Technician "C" or the equivalent and successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification. 3. Employee must have passed examination given by the Public Service Commission of Kentucky for a certificate required for all Meter Technicians. 4. Employee must know electrical terms and apparatus associated with the Electric Meter Department.
