This position is a direct hire need supporting a long-term opportunity at a quality performance materials production facility in the Mobile County area. This need offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions. Job Scope:  

As an Electrical and Controls Engineer, the selected candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing the electrical systems and automation controls within our manufacturing operations onsite at a performance materials facility in Theodore, AL. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth and efficient production of our mineral products, contributing directly to the company’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

This position will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems using Distributed Control Systems (DCS), as well as programming and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Expertise in Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC systems will be critical in driving continuous improvement initiatives across our production facilities.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Design and Develop Control Systems: Develop and maintain Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and integrate PLC-based systems (Allen Bradley and Siemens) to automate and optimize manufacturing processes.

Programming & Troubleshooting: Program, test, and troubleshoot PLCs and electrical systems to ensure reliable and safe operation of plant equipment.

System Integration: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and production teams to integrate new equipment and systems, ensuring compatibility and efficiency in operations.

Continuous Improvement: Lead process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing production efficiency, reducing downtime, and enhancing system reliability.

Preventive Maintenance: Implement electrical maintenance strategies, including routine checks and calibration of control systems, to minimize unplanned downtime.

Safety Compliance: Ensure all electrical and control systems comply with relevant safety standards and regulations. Proactively identify risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze system performance data and generate reports to track efficiency, identify issues, and recommend solutions for optimization.

Ideal BackgroundEducation:

Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is preferred. Relevant industrial experience and/or training will be applicable for consideration.

Experience:

This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.  

Proven experience in industrial electrical systems and control systems within a manufacturing environment, ideally within the minerals or a related industry.

Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC systems for programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and integration with PLCs.

Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvements.

Familiarity with safety standards and electrical regulations.

Ability to work cross-functionally with teams to ensure seamless integration of systems.
