Electrical Design Engineer

Job Title: Electrical Power Distribution Engineer

Location: Lake Mary, FL (Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Job Summary: Lead and design electrical power distribution and signal networks for Gas Turbine projects, focusing on low-voltage systems (600V and below) and auxiliary equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.Perform calculations for equipment sizing, cable/conduit sizing, illumination levels, and maintain BOMs.Develop and review wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).Prepare purchase specifications and select vendors for electrical packages.Generate electrical drawing packages to document logic, wiring, and system interactions.Interpret and design according to electrical codes (NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, AGA, etc.).Meet technical and schedule requirements with vendors.Integrate design requirements from the parent company and respond to technical inquiries.Utilize SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D) for design.Maintain knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities.Preferred experience with generators (150 MVA ratings and above) for gas or steam turbines.

Additional Responsibilities:

Comply with safety policies and procedures.Participate in team efforts and communicate effectively.Handle assignments to meet schedule deadlines.Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions.Develop schedules and manage design projects.Simplify product designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.Assist Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering with projects.Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning.Lead and support junior engineers and interns.Travel up to 10%.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC). Desired 5 years of experience.Familiarity with electrical codes and industry standards, including NEC/NFPA 70.

Software Experience Desired:

SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), SmartSketch, SmartPlant 3D (S3D), AutoCAD, lighting calculation software.

Job Type:

12 month Contract to Hire with full benefits, PTO and paid holidays.Upon going permanent: 17 days of PTO, 11 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, 100% match of the first 6% for retirement contributions, Health plans: HSA, EPO, PPO, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and other optional benefits.



Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $43.00/hr.
