WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL

Positions will be based out of the locations listed above. However, candidates living outside of these areas may be considered with the expectation they could successfully telework and be physically present in-office and/or field location on a routine (see below) and as-needed basis. Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment). Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance. This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.

JOB SUMMARY

These positions are responsible for executing detailed design activities on electrical power systems at power generating facilities across the Southern Company fleet. This includes but is not limited to quality assurance, governance, cost control, schedule adherence, project development and scope, guidance documents, adherence to standards, best practice reviews, and project closeout. These positions will produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements to facilitate construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical power systems. Activities will be executed with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs. The role will be responsible for providing technical direction and Quality Assurance reviews for detailed design activities. These positions require some travel (approximately 25%) and the ability to work successfully in an office environment, a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service, and an industrial/plant environment. 

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Develop electrical design documents for power generation facilities. Assist in the evaluation and purchase of electrical equipment. Review vendor design documents to ensure conformance to design requirements. Coordinate work with other disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors. Provide on-site support during construction, startup, and checkout. Develop scope definition documents and provide schedule inputs. Prepare material take-offs for cost estimates and material procurement.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

High School Graduate or equivalent is required. Additional technical training is preferred (technical school). Associate degree is preferred but not required.

Work Experience: 

Electrical system design experience is required, preferably within heavy industrial facilities or new construction projects. Experience completing technical assignments with limited instructions from supervision. Scope development, schedule input, material takeoffs, and fabrication drawing review. Experience developing electrical power system design including single line, elementary, and wiring diagrams. 3D modeling experience or ability to learn 3D software preferred. Electrical Design codes and standards. Knowledge of electrical power system theory. Proficiency in AutoDesk Suite and Microsoft Office products.
