Electrical Designer
Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Distribution Designer to join our Distribution Department. In this role, you will design and review both overhead and underground distribution lines ranging from 12.5 kV to 34.5 kV. You will be responsible for engineering and designing distribution design work packages associated with new customer construction projects. Ensuring compliance with quality and consistency standards, you will review completed designs and design products.

ResponsibilitiesDesign and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 12.5 kV to 34 kV.Develop overhead and underground cable/conduit work packages.Design complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments in compliance with engineering and construction specifications.Perform field engineering of project requirements, identify conflicting utilities, and conduct engineering and design calculations.Program protective line equipment.Coordinate small design teams to develop budgets, prepare scoping documents, design criteria, and project deliverables.Provide engineering assistance during construction and attend construction meetings, coordination efforts, and community outreach as needed.Identify and initiate corrective actions when project objectives are not being met.Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.Promote engineering professionalism and standards.Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements, including all scheduling, resources, and information for complex engineering.Required to travel up to 30% of the time to client sites; duration of travel length may vary depending on project needs.Essential SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD drafting.Experience working on utility distribution services or electrical engineering within commercial construction.Experience with power distribution.Experience drafting/designing in AutoCAD, overhead distribution, underground utilities, and electric system design.Minimum of one to three years of experience with electric utility distribution design projects.Minimum of one to three years of experience in overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit distribution design work package development.Minimum of one to three years of experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments.Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.Additional Skills & QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution will count towards years of experience.Work Environment

This role involves a combination of office and fieldwork, with up to 30% travel to client sites. The work environment will include both urban and rural project locations, requiring adherence to safety standards and regulations. The position demands proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to work collaboratively with small design teams. Flexibility and adaptability to varied project needs are essential.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
