Job Description
The individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This involves system reliability and improvement work, including replacing old equipment or upgrading with new components. The individual will review work provided by clients and assess the requirements of the scopes. Field work may be required depending on available support, and involves taking photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits. Design work will be completed using Open Utilities, a Microstation-based CAD system, and involves energy analysis to ensure materials meet site requirements. The individual will also create a Bill of Materials (BOM) and help with potential permits needed for utility lines. Once all components are completed, the candidate will submit the electrical construction package for approval.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.Replace old equipment or upgrade with new components to improve system reliability.Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements.Conduct field work, including taking photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits.Complete design work using Open Utilities, a Microstation-based CAD system.Perform energy analysis to ensure materials meet site requirements.Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.Assist with permits needed for utility lines to cross roads, easements, private property, or tree cutting.Submit the completed electrical construction package for approval and make necessary revisions.Essential SkillsExperience with design software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, and Microstation.Knowledge of Open Utilities, a Microstation-based design software.Familiarity with software like Poleforman or PLA/Pole Loading Analysis for structural analysis.Understanding of NESC codes (National Electric Safety Codes).Experience with QA/Quality Assurance or QC/Quality Control.Ability to communicate frequently via e-mail, phone, and Teams.Additional Skills & QualificationsElectrical Engineering Degree, Mechanical Engineering Degree, or Engineering Technology Degree in ME/EE.Associates in design or relevant distribution or utility experience without a degree.Experience working directly with electric utility companies or consulting firms supporting utility work.Work Environment
The work locations include Muskegon, Ludington, Cadillac, Alma, Claire, West Branch, Traverse City, Saginaw, Owosso, and Lansing. Candidates should ideally live within a 60-mile radius of these locations. There are offices in Traverse City, Gaylord, Bay City, and Grand Rapids. Candidates living within a 45-minute distance to one of these locations may be asked to come into the office, with the possibility of hybrid flexibility after a few months. Remote work is an option for those living outside the 45-minute distance. The position involves a combination of office and field work, with technologies and equipment such as Open Utilities, SAP/Material Tracking Software, Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis, Katapault, and adherence to NESC codes.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00
