Electrical Distribution Engineer
Electrical Distribution Engineer As an Electrical Distribution Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable distribution of electricity from power plants to various end users. Your primary focus will be on designing, maintaining, and improving electrical distribution systems. You’ll work independently to develop design and construction work packages for both overhead and underground distribution systems. Here are the key responsibilities: + Design and Layout: + Create layouts for electrical distribution systems that maximize efficiency, reliability, and safety while minimizing costs and environmental impact. + Regulatory Compliance: Inspect and monitor distribution systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. + Coordinate with clients (such as DTE or Consumers Energy) to assess project requirements and scopes. + Engineering Calculations: + Perform engineering calculations, including: + Structural analysis for wood pole loading. + Guying calculations. + Specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans. + Calculation of voltage drop and flicker. + Construction Support: + Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure adherence to engineering and construction standards. + Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies. + Field Experience: + Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements. + Develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments. + Facilitate work permit development, easements, and Right-of-Way (ROW) applications. + Customer Advocacy: + Prepare forestry trimming requests. + Facilitate permit and ROW acquisition. + Advocate for customers by acquiring easements. + Consider factors such as load requirements, power demands, and integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. Skills & Qualifications + Education: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering practice (High School Diploma is required). + Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD/CAD, MicroStation, or similar design software. + Experience: 0.5-2+ years of direct experience working with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company in electric distribution design or engineering. + Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and distribution construction & design standards. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
