We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology. The Electrical Engineer, Sustaining works independently in a lead role, or as part of a team to investigate complaints from on market products or clinical studies. This is a fully on-site (5 days/week) role in Alameda, CA. **What you’ll work on** + Utilize expertise in the areas of analog measurement electronics, digital electronics, embedded software, firmware, NFC, Bluetooth, and high volume manufacturing to work with teams inside and outside of R&D performing failure analysis investigations. + Identify opportunities and work with quality assurance to robustly document methods of using product event and data logs to identify root cause of product failures. + Synthesize electrical and software design documentation. + Provide strategies for verification/commissioning of electrical test fixtures. + Review test protocols and reports, participate in CAPA process. + Utilize excellent communication and organization skills to work with cross functional teams outside of R&D and vendors. + Utilize good engineering sensibilities, first principles, knowledge of failure modes, knowledge of good lab technique. + Utilize good deductive reasoning, sound logic and the ability to explain complicated ideas. + Communicate fluently with electrical, mechanical, and embedded software designers as well as quality assurance, clinical investigations, and upper management. + Communicate effectively and participate on cross functional development teams with good negotiating skills to direct multi-disciplinary teams toward solutions. + Work in conjunction with developers in creating investigation processes for new products and solutions for identified failure modes. + Provide guidance and/or act as independent technical reviewer on projects with little to no previous direct involvement, including technical product design reviews, design requirements documents and CAPAs. + Provide technical leadership and mentoring. + Assist as needed with other projects within R&D **Required Qualifications** + Minimum 8 years of experience in Electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field. + Bachelors Degree (BA or BS) in Electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field. + Strong technical experience in the Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline + Extensive understanding of processes used in design and manufacturing + Experience working in a development environment with a regulated industry, and working on a development team with an emphasis on minimizing time to market + Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential **Preferred Qualifications** + Some experience in engineering management or technical leadership desirable **What We Offer** At Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
