The FM Engineering group has three main functions with a broad range of responsibilities, including but limited to: 1) Act as a Project Manager (PM) for university infrastructure projects; Inclusive of electrical distribution, generator and emergency distribution, fire alarm, solar panel installation, elevators, lighting, etc. a. Define and develop project scope for professional services. b. Define and track project schedule and budget from conception through design (SD, DD, CD, and bidding). c. Review and comment on document submittals against NEC and university design standards. d. Assist the university’s Construction PM as needed throughout project construction. 2) Represent FM Engineering as a team member for general construction projects (i.e., comprehensive, architect-driven) with electrical scope. a. Review and comment on document submittals against NEC and university design standards. b. Support the university PM with any electrical-specific questions regarding scope. 3) Support the university with ongoing operations and maintenance assignments and issues. a. Assist the university Electricians with troubleshooting power quality and equipment issues. b. Assist with building power system studies, including short-circuit, overcurrent protection, and arc flash hazard. c. Assist with the university’s e-metering system which monitors real-time power usage and events throughout campus. Monitor the e-metering system daily for errors, data losses, or unusual excursions and investigate. d. Maintain accurate as-builts of campus power systems, including single-line diagrams, power plans, duct banks, manhole plans and details, site lighting plans, etc. e. Work with university departments (“customers”) to assist with small-scale electrical design and cost-estimating services.
Establishes design criteria for electrical systems and reviews plans and specifications to ensure cost-efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices. Provides electrical design and/or project management for assigned projects. Ensures contractor and trade compliance with all project details.
