Basic Qualifications
For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Minimum five (5) years of experience as an electrical engineer in a manufacturing environment. Minimum five (5) years of experience working with PLCs and HMI packages. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications
For this position to be successful, preference is given to candidates with:
Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs. Experience managing and executing capital projects. Previous experience with combustion systems or furnace operation. Previous experience with power distribution systems (up to 15kV) A high degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision. 15 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in a heavy manufacturing environment
Working Conditions
This position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in an interior work environment, while regularly accessing plant equipment for assessment. While not exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment and hot materials when on the shop floor.
This position also requires a willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule and travel (typically 10% or less) both domestically and internationally, as requested.
Primary Purpose of Job
Under the direction of an Engineering Lead, this position is responsible for effecting workable solutions to engineering and production problems and solving those problems rapidly and with minimum operational interference. The incumbent communicates continually with all levels of personnel in the Maintenance, Planning, Production, Purchasing, Human Resources, Finance, and EHS Departments, as well as with Technical Supervisors and other Engineering & Design Department personnel. Externally, they communicate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Accountability Objectives
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing electrical engineering support for systems and equipment in assigned area. Developing, recommending, and implementing migration paths for obsolete controls and components. Providing compliance oversight and directing planned maintenance activities for plant power distribution systems. Planning, scheduling, and coordinating equipment installations. Providing engineering and consultation services in terms of diagnosis and solutions to difficult operating and maintenance problems including performing root cause analysis with the goal of increasing OEE. Mentoring less experienced engineers, electrical technicians, maintenance supervisors, and craft personnel. Providing specialized technical expertise in the application and use of new technologies for plant facilities and processes. Participating in the development of long-range process and facilities planning, capital expenditure, and cost savings programs. Driving continuous improvement activities to eliminate all waste, especially as it relates to equipment downtime, safety, work practices, and employee involvement. Performing and/or directing the design, development, installation, cost control, and evaluation of complex engineering projects. Writing and/or approving engineering specifications, designs, estimates, schedules, spare parts lists, request for quotations, requisitions, work orders, etc. Developing, preparing, and presenting RFAs to upper management to secure capital approval for select capital engineering projects. Monitoring and managing these capital projects’ financial changes against the approved financial budget to avoid exceeding the authorized amount and expected timeline. Preparing documentation, such as engineering and project status reports, as required. Carry these capital projects from their beginning through completion. Performing other duties as assigned.
