Electrical Engineer – Albany, NY

JSG is seeking an Electrical Engineer for our client near Albany, NY. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing the manufacturing and installation of instrumentation and controls, components, or systems for commercial use.

In this role, the Electrical Engineer will collaborate daily with the engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver innovative solutions that align with client needs. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach and a strong background in control system design (hardware/software/network), electrical panel design, power calculations, risk assessment, component selection and configuration, control system programming, and control system installation and commissioning.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Design, implement, maintain, and enhance electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic applications. Develop electrical schematics, interconnect diagrams, and cabling interconnect diagrams. Design electric heater SCR control panels, including mechanical layout of equipment. Design and program PLC systems based on project-specific requirements. Create electrical junction box mechanical layouts. Collaborate with other engineers, customers, and management to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products. Perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications. Prepare specifications for material and equipment purchases, including defining complete electrical BOMs (Bill of Materials). Coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. Develop Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) requirements and provide necessary support. Review technical requirements and develop technical drawings and electrical system specifications to ensure compliance with standards and customer needs. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in instrumentation and control systems, ensuring timely solutions, including production troubleshooting and support. Maintain detailed documentation, including system specifications, wiring diagrams, and operating procedures. Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements related to electrical theory, instrumentation, and controls, applying relevant principles to engineering projects. Some travel (<25%) may be required to support product commissioning. Qualifications and Skills: Proven experience in instrumentation, controls, and low-medium voltage power. Familiarity with the National Electric Code. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with concrete variables in non-standardized situations. Ability to interpret and follow written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions. Capable of identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving critical issues efficiently. Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail. 2D AutoCAD experience required; 3D AutoCAD/Inventor experience is a plus. Proficiency with computer and IT applications (MS products). Knowledge of Six Sigma, electrical engineering, and Lean manufacturing principles is a plus. Understanding of health and safety regulations. Experience working with quality management systems such as ISO9001, NQA-1, etc. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree and/or Registered PE in New York is a plus). 5-10 years of relevant experience, including hands-on expertise in instrumentation, controls, and low voltage power. Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including ASME Section IX, ASME Section VIII, Zone 2 hazardous areas (UL/FM, ATEX, IECEx). Experience with Hazardous Location design (Gas Groups B, C, D) is required. Prior experience with auxiliary power generation systems, ASME Section III, and NavSea is a plus. Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Safety glasses, earplugs, and steel-toe shoes are required while in the shop area. Benefits:
