Your Opportunity

Our Buildings team is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Designer.  You will work with as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Lead Engineer/Designer. You will lead in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering certain electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and other low voltage systems for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and internal engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit and AutoCAD design, calculations, and field work.

Your Key Responsibilities Creates electrical design documentation for the electrical discipline using direct knowledge of relevant software programs such as Revit / AutoCAD and providing direction to junior staff via markups or other method to convey design intent and expectations. Provides direct supervision to assigned staff to develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentor to strengthen technical abilities and develop career goals. Leads in the development of a design through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats. Prepares and reviews documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details. Coordinates with other building disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent (either working directly with these other disciplines or by providing guidance / review of junior staff performing this coordination). Performs advanced calculations of building elements and electrical systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software and has the ability to review and interpret the results provided by others. Performs field work (or reviews field work performed by others) to review existing facility conditions for use in development of site-specific electrical design documents and to review work being performed by contractors. Leads the engineering construction administration duties on projects, including review of shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and preparation of site observation / punch list reports. Leads in the evaluation and selection of building electrical systems / materials and development of job specific discipline specifications. Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants. Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating exercises. Applies technical expertise while leading cross-functional resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget. Provides client consultation, drawing on professional expertise and knowledge of Stantec's services. Nurtures existing client relationships and proactively pursues opportunities for new business. Acts as a resource for staff to all levels in any area of technical expertise and works with junior staff to train them on applicable software programs, knowledge of electrical / building codes, field work, and the processes associated with designing electrical systems. Maintains current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthen skills. Implements sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment. Your Capabilities and Credentials Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. Solid understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low voltage systems for the built environment. Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles. Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects. Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines. Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes and Applicable Energy Codes. Strong client communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to participate on multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution and schedule. Ability to recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Ability to give direction, follow process, and give feedback and suggestions to Junior Engineers and Designers. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material for use by Junior Engineers and Designers. Ability to produce calculations based on project specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations. Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others. Ability to produce project specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification. Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool. Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with AGI 32, SKM, Newforma is advantageous. Working knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security and fire alarm is advantageous but not required. Experience in healthcare, laboratory and industrial facilities is advantageous but not required. Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis. Minimum 10 years of experience in the construction industry. Professional Engineering license required.  LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
