The Engineer II – Electrical is a position within FORTNA’s Electrical Engineering team responsible for directing the design and documentation of electrical controls deliverables of FORTNA’s Material Handling Systems. The ideal candidate has significant experience and background in Electrical Engineering / design and is experienced and/or capable of providing leadership and direction to the Electrical Engineering project team during project implementation. Leadership tasks shall be aligned with FORTNA’s Integrated Design Methodology to ensure successful project implementation. This role requires design tasks direction utilizing standard design tools to provide high quality electrical designs in support of Clients’ needs.

Responsibilities:

Leading medium scope projects through the detail design and implementation phase. This includes development of BOM generation, electrical control panel phasing plans, Electrical Engineering work plans, and design approval packages   Providing electrical system input to Project Engineer during design review meetings to ensure electrical requirements are understoodSupporting Project Engineer during transition from Detailed Design to Final EngineeringReviewing and providing Electrical Engineering input to Description of Operation (DOO) & Functional Specification (FSD) documentationFacilitating project meetings as required by project cadence:Producing meeting agendasProviding meeting minutes to team membersProviding Electrical Engineering input to MHS implementation planDeveloping Electrical Engineering work plan to ensure successful project milestone achievementsAssisting Project Engineer during Speeds & Feeds reviewLeading Controls Layout review meetings with internal teams and Client.  Supporting Project Engineer to achieve design acceptanceLeading and directing support resources during development of project deliverables and ensuring deliverables meet Drawing Quality Control (DQC) requirements, including:Electrical device layout packageControl panel fabrication packageElectrical installation packageAs Built documentationUpdating project team on the current status of project:Compiling project status reportsAttending project update meetingsCompiling and communicating electrical Assumptions/Decisions/Risk/Actions (ADRA) itemsManaging electrical scope utilizing DOO and FSDEscalating risks to Project Engineer and Engineering teamLeading electrical prototype efforts for less complex solutions, including development of prototyping plan and communication of scopeConducting site visits to assist with installation and commissioning support activitiesAttending Client meetings as requiredSupporting development of lessons learned documentFollowing and providing input for improvement of DQC processSupporting generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Engineering GroupConstantly working to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technologyUtilizing AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for drawingsContinuously working to solve Client needsProactively seeking work to maintain project utilizationUsing current design practices for material handling systemsAdhering to all Fortna and department standardsMaintaining good design notesAttending and/or performing company training as requiredBeing reliable; providing timely responses and consistent follow-up

Qualifications:

4-year engineering degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar engineering program) from an accredited college plus 3-5 years of relevant work experienceConveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application)Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliersAbility to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performanceAdvanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication)Experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for positionProficient in the use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Promis-e, or E-Plan for electrical designFlexible and approachableAbility to self-motivateStrong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skillsAbility to travel domestically and internationally in support of our projectsAbility to perform essential functions of the job

Desired Qualifications:

Experience managing Engineering projects requiring collaboration between multiple Engineering work streamsExperience leading and directing Engineering support resources to achieve project milestonesUL, NEC, NFPA, OSHA design requirements480VAC motor control panel design experienceStrong comprehension of Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet IP, network design and requirementsStrong leadership skills

The base salary range for this role is $73,900 to $110,800.  This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
