LOCATION
This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with minimum onsite requirements on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to either the Kalamazoo Service Center located in Kalamazoo, MI OR Grand Rapids Service Center located in Grand Rapids, MI. The selected candidate must be located within a commutable distance OR willing to relocate (relocation package available to those who qualify).
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThe Electric Engineer is responsible for engineering and design to support the sustainable operation of our distribution system. The incumbent works with teams across the organization and external stakeholders, and develops technical projects as required.
This position is within the Planning group for Low Voltage Distribution (LVD). This group is responsible for the planning responsibilities for the electric distribution facilities. This position includes both office and field responsibilities for the performance of the electric distribution circuits which encompasses electric planning, project management, reliability programs, customer concern resolution, and storm restoration responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation Write reports and compile data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects Perform a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products Other duties as assigned or may be necessary KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering Proficient in design and calculation software Written and verbal communication skills Organizational skills and attention to detail Analytical and problem-solving skills Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e. generation, transmission and distribution of three phase alternating current power) Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with two (2) or more years of experience in electrical engineering OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with two (2) or more years of experience in electrical engineering
