Electrical Engineer - TERM

The Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) division under the Grid Integration Team (GIT) is currently looking for a Electrical Engineer. The successful candidate will work out of building 300’s “Smart Energy Plaza” and perform hands on testing surrounding electric vehicle charging and grid management. The 10-15 researchers within the Grid Integration Team each work closely together on different projects, bringing their own level of expertise and value not only to the group, but to Argonne National Laboratory as a whole.
The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of EV charging, electrical systems, fleet operations, vehicle systems, and hands-on project experience. The Next-Gen Profiles (NGP) project led by Argonne National Laboratory is performing electric vehicle DC fast charging performance analysis using our on-site chargers and vehicles. In this role, the successful candidate will support on capturing charge session data, take the lead on performing EV charging performance analysis in our technical reports and perform deep dive presentations. To perform this analysis, we would need an individual who can write software scripts, plotting functions, handle large datasets, and have a keen understanding of battery systems.
This position will involve:
+ Ability to take the lead on a vital aspect of the Next-Gen Profiles project, EV profile capture and analysis.
+ Ability to create custom scripts for data analysis, plotting, and report generation.
+ Instrumenting DC fast charger cabinets & dispenser.
+ Performing High Voltage switching as a Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW2).
+ Debugging and creating vehicle CAN (UDS) databases for metering.
+ Perform highway drive cycles for electric vehicles.
+ Working with multiple software (LabVIEW, VSpy3, Vector CANoe, etc.) while running charge sessions.
**Position Requirements**
+ Master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering is required.
+ Experience and competence working with electrical systems and the adaptability to work with new and innovative electrical designs.
+ Advanced knowledge & understanding of High Voltage Systems.
+ Advanced knowledge & understanding of battery technologies
+ Advanced knowledge & understanding of AC & DC electrical systems.
+ Advanced software experience with Python & Matplotlib.
+ Basic software experience with LabVIEW or MATLAB Simulink.
+ Basic project planning & milestone tracking experience.
+ Must be able to take both direction and initiative, work independently and in a team environment, set personal goals, deadlines, etc. and achieve with competence.
+ Leadership and communication skills at all levels of the organization.

+ This position requires an on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois.

The expected hiring range for this position is $74,799.00 - $118,785.42.
