This engineering intern position will design, debug, enhance, customize, and maintain our hardware through a variety of analysis and development tasks under the guidance of an experienced electrical engineer. This individual will participate in the building, analyzing, and verifying new high-performance analog/digital systems for the control of printer mechanisms. They may assist in all aspects of hardware design, including: Systems architecture and definition, interface specification, critical timing analysis and verification, hardware schematic capture, functional board verification, debug, integration, and compliance to applicable standards.

As our Electrical Engineer Intern, you’ll support HID’s success by:
• Applying technical expertise in the evaluation, development, maintenance and using of complex products, devices, tests, or procedures under constantly changing conditions where moderate ingenuity and good judgement are required to support our printer hardware, to enhance functionality, and/or to comply with system requirements
• Performing advanced troubleshooting, calibration, or modification of hardware, fixtures, and software
• Utilizing electronic, microelectronic, optical, electro-optical, mechanical, or electromechanical equipment
• Designing, building, and testing new electronic printed circuit assemblies, fixtures, and cables
• Identifying and correcting minor process, material, designing, equipment, part specification problems, and obsolete part issues
• Participating in the design and testing for compliance standards including, but not limited to, emissions, susceptibility, and safety
• Working with all departments to continuously improve product, process, workflow, internal standards, and customer experience
• Recommending and assisting in the implementation of new processes and tools
• Suggesting ideas for new technological developments, components, concepts, and materials processes to maintain competitive advantage.
• Proactively providing status, raising issues, and communicating necessary information to appropriate team members on a regular basis
• Self-managing workflow with minimal guidance, to achieve team goals

Your Experience and Background include:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university (Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline); preferably has completed a minimum of 2 years of the program.

• Preferred exposure to modern schematic capture CAD tools
• Exposure to modern hardware test equipment: digital sampling oscilloscopes, digital logic analyzers, etc.
NOTE: Exposure to network protocol analyzers a definite plus
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and respond to shifting priorities
• Interest in a hands-on approach to problem solving
• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate small parts and operate a keyboard
