Electrical Inspector (Remote Site Locations)

GPI has immediate openings for Electrical work on major/minor CDOT projects in the Hartford to Tolland Area. Available positions range from entry-level to senior-level Electrical construction inspectors. 

The candidate should be motivated and can work independently and with a GPI/Connecticut Project Team. Candidates should also be available to work the contractor’s hours of operation, including day or night shift and weekends, as necessary for Project completion. Responsibilities:

Perform daily field inspections and observations of contractor’s work for heavy highway and/or bridge construction projects, including Electrical/Communication Installations (Power Distribution Equipment, Junction Boxes, Conduits, Power Cables, and Fiber Optic Cables) and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS; Cameras, Variable Message Signs, and Traffic Detection). Prepare Daily Work Reports to document inspections and track construction progress over a long duration. Ability to read and interpret Project plans, specifications, and standards. Ensure contractor’s work/materials meet Client Project Standards, Specifications and applicable requirements such as National Electrical Code. Perform and/or observe material sampling and testing in accordance with Project standards and specifications. Ability to measure, compute, record, and maintain contract quantities for contractor payment. Ability to properly document daily Project progress, including work performed, conformance/nonconformance with plans/specifications, workforce, equipment, contract quantities, and extra work. Entering and recording project progress, materials, payments, and documentation in Word/Excel, Compass, AASHTOWare, LIMS, or other electronic software program. Identifying and communicating project issues to project managers and the contractor. Ability to identify, assess, and communicate unsafe conditions with the contractor. Recognize, evaluate, and properly resolve problems related to assigned projects. Meets with design professionals, contractors, and clients to discuss technical code issues that arise during the plan review process. Inspects projects for compliance with the National Electrical Code.

Qualifications:

3 or more years of experience with industrial and heavy construction projects preferred High School Diploma with a Trades License, E2, L2, etc. Bachelor's degree or higher in Construction Management/Technology/Electrical Engineering preferred but not required for all positions. CTDOT or other DOT construction inspection experience is preferred. Certifications: One of the following PE, NICET Level II or higher, or Trades License Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and basic computer skills. OSHA 10 or ability to obtain. Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, problem solve, and exercise good judgement. Capability to coordinate a variety of projects simultaneously. Organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Able to work effectively under time pressure and/or deadline.
