What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete design of electrical/instrumentation assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This level is expected to assist in the design of larger and more complex electrical/instrumentation assignments. This work will be performed under general supervision by the client onsite at a chemical's facility in McIntosh, AL.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Revise existing and create new I&E drawings, layouts, specifications and bills of materials with the guidance of an engineer

Revise existing and create new instrument location plans, wiring and loop diagrams, instrument installation details and specifications with the guidance of an engineer

Assemble and issue design packages that will be utilized for construction purposes

Provide E&I design assistance throughout all phases of projects including commissioning and start-up

Perform CAD operations and document control for updating non-E&I engineering drawings such as P&IDs and general equipment arrangements

Provide design support for routine requests from maintenance and operations personnel

Collect and deliver design and engineering data to both internal and external partners

Track progress for your jobs and projects and coordinate with supervision

Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental matters

Address any issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees and contractors

Ideal Background

Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is preferred but not required. Relevant experience will be reviewed in lieu of a degree.

Certification: Certification is not required at this level.

Experience: This position requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Must be able to perform field walk downs to verify and update drawings to an as-built status

Must be familiar with design software such as MicroStation or CAD 2D

Working experience with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) is beneficial

Experience with Microsoft Suite

Knowledge of industrial computer systems, motor control, and control systems such as PLC, DCS and SIS programs

Ability to work onsite at a chemical plant and flexible work arrangements whenever possible 

Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

Interact with operations, project field personnel, and other staff

Must be able to work both individually and on a team

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
