Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer
As an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer, you will perform advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and interfaces with the client to define project scope. Required to perform electrical engineering and design assignments associated with production, maintenance, process, capital projects, R&D, and power distribution involving the application of established electrical technology and principles, including performing all electrical calculations, and often requiring coordination with other engineering design, and cross-functional competencies to provide economical and expedient task implementation. The assignment will include participation in all electrical functions associated with projects including assistance with front end loading, production design, electrical construction management, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities. Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by the associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset including but not limited to forecasting & budget.

This is a long-term position located in Parlin, NJ.
Responsibilities
+ Functions as a project lead for a small project or an area lead for larger projects.
+ Scope definition from receipt of basic data to Issue for Design process deliverables
+ Interface with the clients’ cross functional teams to define all operating requirements.
+ Responsible for study, design, specification, and services related to electrical systems including power generation, power systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communication systems, cathodic protection, grounding, lightning protection, heat tracing, etc.
+ Responsibility for assessing the quality, robustness, and capability of newly designed and installed Capital Projects.
+ Industrial electrical power distribution ranging from high voltage (greater than 35kV), medium voltage (1kV through 35kV) through low voltage (120V through 1kV)
+ Electrical power distribution equipment such as generators, substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, distribution panels
+ Electrical utilization equipment such as motors (AC and DC), controllers, electrical process equipment
+ Electrical drawing knowledge (reading and generation via MicroStation V8):
+ Single Line Diagrams
+ Three Line Diagrams
+ Schematic Diagrams
+ Wiring Diagrams
+ Physical Drawings
+ Involved in discussions around the control of the process. Frequently pulls in additional technical resources for making decisions about the project viability and resolve any safety concerns or hazards.
+ Provides engineering, Checkout and Qualification for the Capital Project process control systems, such as distributive control systems and components, instrumentation technology, and programmable logic controllers.
+ Overall responsibility for design, specification, selection, and services relating to instrumentation and control systems including basic process control systems, safety systems, control panels, analyzer systems, field instrumentation, valves, etc.
+ May self-perform or lead other engineers to complete project scope and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers. On some occasions, will also plan, schedule, and conduct work requiring independent judgment and adaptation of engineering techniques.
+ Participation in Process Hazard Analysis for project-related work.
+ Define the process design basis for other disciplines, specifically Electrical Systems, conduit sizing, and Instrumentation and interface with these groups throughout detailed design. Leading multidisciplinary small project teams across several different businesses and site infrastructure.
+ Develop project estimates, scopes, and schedule. May lead estimate reviews.
+ Work with Construction Manager during FEL as well as to oversee project execution in the field.
+ Forecasting and project cost tracking, monthly.
+ Manage scope change technically and commercially.
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems
+ Must have a good understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA 70E/NEC, OSHA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API, and ASI.
+ 8+ years of qualified related experience
+ Experience in the chemical, refining, or biofuels industry required.
+ Experience with P&ID Development, equipment sizing, electrical calculations, and instrumentation. Demonstrated leadership of process design on capital projects, including responsibility for budget, schedule, and change management.
+ Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
· Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
· Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs frequently, etc
· Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs
· Assignments may require conducting plant walkdowns and wearing chemical plant or refinery PPE to include an H2S monitor, escape respirator, and FP coveralls.
