Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for an experienced, Electrical Panel Assembly Technician, for a 6-month contract assignment supporting the Kennedy Space Center, FL. Our client is targeting $30.00 - $35.00/hour for this role.
This onsite role will involve fabricating, inspecting, and testing Ground Safety Equipment assemblies and panel/racks integral to our various spaceflight systems. The position will start in a shop environment and transition into a field assignment at the Kennedy Space Center.
U.S. Citizenship is required. Local candidates only – per diem is not available
Project Overview:
Located at Kennedy Space Center, the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for NASA to provide an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. This is a day shift position generally working 7:00am - 5:30pm, which includes two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Responsibilities: Responsible for integrating electronic equipment systems for space system components for the Artemis programs. Assembling of complex electromechanical racks, panels, and subassemblies. Performing installation of avionic components and systems, ensuring operational reliability and adherence to design specifications. Reads instructions such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly. Mount and install components, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), relays, contactors, switches, and terminal blocks in panel enclosures. Assembles cables, buses, and electromechanical systems. Measures, cuts, solders, and or crimps wire and contacts to fabricate wire harness. Conduct detailed installations, including intricate cable harness configurations, ensuring all avionic installations meet safety and quality standards. Inspect, test, and verify avionics assemblies against technical models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions. Troubleshoot panel system issues, carrying out necessary modifications, rework, repairs, or maintenance to resolve malfunctions. Ensure the optimal function of GSE systems by conducting thorough inspections, cleanings, measurements, and testing activities. Understand and adheres to quality management systems standards, requirements, and procedures. Collaborate with teams to perform in-field harness installations Spearhead continuous improvement efforts in avionic installation processes, prioritizing safety and operational efficiency. Maintain a collaborative team environment, effectively balancing multiple priorities and adapting to rapidly evolving project needs. Treat all team members with respect and dignity ensuring a collaborative culture is continually developed and maintained
Education / Experience: Associate degree in a related field preferred. Experience in lieu of college education will be considered. 3+ years' experience as an electrical/cable fabrication technician working with panel, wiring, and mechanical installs. Experience working from engineering drawings, wire diagrams, and electrical schematics. Experience with avionics/panel manufacturing and operation of related test equipment. Proficiency in harsh environment test & assembly procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC/ WHMA-A-620, MIL-DTL-22520, NASA-STD-8739, J-STD-001, and ANSI/ESD S20.20. Proficient in using measurement tools and understanding basic math concepts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/365 including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a shop and construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: 5-10 years in a manufacturing role in aerospace or similar industry, with a focus on rack or panel fabrication. Proven success as a "hands-on" technical leader. Work optimally with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities. Electromechanical systems and electrical/mechanical assembly background. IPC J-Std-001 and/or IPC-620 certification, NASA space addendum 8739.4 certified are a plus.
