Coordinates site specific maintenance activities with outside contractors, City departments, etc. + Prepares periodic budget estimates and operational reports as required and/or requested. + Ensures preventative/corrective maintenance tasks are carried out in timely and efficient manner. + Responds to emergency calls for electrical issues. + Other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six years of journey-level experience in the area of work to be performed, either as an inside electrician or outside lineman, are required. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). PREFERENCES Preference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems and knowledge of electrical controls. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in obtaining budgetary quotes, supervision of electrical personnel, and scheduling vendor activities. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.
