What you will doThe System Design Engineer Expert will lead and/or participate in the design and development of new technology, electrical components, electrical sub-systems and systems to meet vehicle defense requirements. Key focus areas include vehicle electrical architecture, active safety, base vehicle chassis electrical and electronic components, vehicle automation, powertrain electrification, on-board power generation and sustainability technologies. The role will lead in the adaptation and integration of these technologies and designs by maturing the solution from proof of concept to production-ready designs through prototyping, testing, final design development and industrialization.
Core responsibilities:
• Lead the development of new or modified vehicle electrical systems to include wiring, control modules, electrical mechanical interfaces, sensors, and software.
• Lead in the testing and validation of vehicles platforms and systems.
• Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues
• Manage the attainment of all technical project objectives
• Represent engineering on cross-functional program teams
• Evaluate designs for performance, safety and reliability in accordance with customer requirements
• Lead the preparation of all required engineering documentation (conceptual development, drawings, specifications, bills of material, test procedures, test reports, etc.)
• Create and maintain project documentation for project planning, requirements analysis, risk management, task management, status reporting, project communication, quality assurance, etc.
• Provide technical hands-on assistance as required for prototype, pilot, and production support
Required Competencies:
• Self-Starter, able to work independently
• Willing to travel occasionally both domestically and internationally
• Ability to work in adverse field conditions to support product development activities
• Experience working in multi-site, global development teams
• Strong project management skills
• In depth knowledge of vehicles and related systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong time management and organization skills
Basic Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Electro-Mechanical) required
• Minimum 10 years of related vehicle electrical design experience
• Minimum 5 years of technical project management experience
• Demonstrated product development experience in automotive, truck or off-highway equipment
• Knowledgeable of industry standards for vehicle system designs and performance
• Able to obtain a US Department of Defense security clearance as required by job duties
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Knowledge of Mack/Volvo products and systems
• Experience in the development of military or class 8 vehicle systems
• Vehicle electrical systems design and development
• Vehicle diagnostic tools - PTT (Pro Tech tool) Engineering Tool , Vector CANALIZER, VDA_Plus
• System-level embedded software development, validation, and sustainability
• High Voltage electrical system design
• Knowledge of SAE J1939, CAN FD and J1587 data communication standards as well as UDS and LIN networks
