As part of The Toro Company, this individual will contribute to industry-leading innovation in the development of electrical systems that benefit both customers and the environment. The manager of the RLC systems engineering and electrification team is responsible forassisting the various product teams in meeting their goals, as well as and working with other divisions of the company in leveraging resources, components, tools, and processes. 

The person selected for this role will lead a group of electrical engineers & designers focused on electrifying products for our residential and contractor businesses, as well as other businesses within The Toro Company. Electrical systemsmay include batteries, inverters, generators, electric motors,wire harnesses, and other related components.

What Will You Do?

Collaborate with others to deliver customer-valued innovation.  Participate in both formal and informal Voice of the Customer opportunities by interacting with customers. 

Assures project coordination with Engineering Managers, Lead Engineers, Marketing, Management, Operations, Technical services, Legal, Customer Service, and other areas of the organization. 

Plans and executes product development programs assuring schedules and goals reflect aggressive but obtainable objectives. 

Recognizes problems, whether schedule or resource difficulties and initiates corrective action. 

Responsible for budgetary estimates and control of expenditures on assigned projects. 

Conducts regular design, quality, cost, manufacturability and safety reviews with project team and support functions. 

Collaborates with legal on potential patent activity and any liability cases. 

Prepares reports and other communication as required

Supervises and leads electrical teams to complete approved tasks & projects in support of engineering program goals and objectives. 

Recruit, coach, lead, manage, and discipline an engineering team.  Assist in the personal development of the team, providing resources and opportunities. Conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews in accordance with policy. Sets and monitors objectives for subordinates. 

Provides goals and direction to the electrical harnesses and schematics team.

Ability to manage geographically dispersed teams 

May provide "hands on" technical support on an as needed basis.  

Conducts feasibility studies as needed to determine idea practicality, potential problems and specific revisions.  Assists test department in developing and following test plans. 

Ensures requirements / specifications are adequately defined for projects.  Assures product reliability, serviceability, safety, cost and performance objectives for the design are established and met. 

Provide technical support to Purchasing and Operations to evaluate and select vendor partnerships. Works with vendors to insure selection of quality components. 

Reviews, develops, and improves products and processes.  

Provides current product support activities as assigned. 

Ensure that all product development process (OnePDS) requirements are satisfied and lead the effort to develop and communicate all required project briefs. 

Be an engaged participant in strategic planning and multi-generation product planning meetings with the business units.  Collaborate with others develop an enterprise strategy and products roadmap for the company, andassist the divisions in applying technology. 

Collaborate with others divisions in the identification and selection of technology partners, production suppliers, resource firms, and manage associated relationships on behalf of the company.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

BSEE degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Management (preferred)

Professional registration (preferred)

Engineering Manager I – Typically 7+ years of relevant experience, Project lead/team lead experience (preferred)

Engineering Manager II – Typically 10+ years of relevant experience, Project lead/team lead experience, 2+ years of supervision experience (preferred)

Strong customer orientation and the ability to anticipate customer needs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening skills

Motivated to share knowledge with coworkers

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects

Ability to build relationships and lead by influence

Experience in product development and project management, including proven track record of developing detailed project plans, meeting project deadlines, and holding cross-functional teams accountable for project deliverables and commitments. 

Demonstrated experience leading a significant, cross-divisional or corporate wide initiative.

Frequent engagement with divisional management teams and product development teams, to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and to facilitate effective project transitions.

Collaboration with other members of the product development team, including electrical and mechanical engineers, as well as other divisional engineering teams

Coordination, as required, with external development partners.

Located at The Toro Company’s worldwide headquarters in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Limited travel, up to 20% of the time, to corporate offices, test sites, customer locations, supplier/partner facilities, and select industry events.
