Opportunity Summary

As an Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing electrical systems and equipment, ensuring the reliability of critical infrastructure. This position involves performing advanced electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-voltage systems, while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Additionally, the role offers the opportunity to develop your expertise toward becoming an IC&E Technician through ongoing training and hands-on experience.

Primary Functions

Performs electrician work at the journey level, including installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical wiring, equipment, and controls, in accordance with electrical codes and standards. Calibrates, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and installs electrical systems in the power plant. This includes, but is not limited to, motors, variable speed drives, battery chargers, inverters, transformers, switchgear (13.8KV and 4160 volts), and main generator and excitation equipment. Occasionally works with control valves, fan dampers, and conveyor systems. Adheres to safety procedures, consistently performing tasks in a safe manner and ensuring compliance with industry safety standards, plant protocols, and regulatory requirements. Utilizes tools, equipment, and materials responsibly, performing basic inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance before and after use to ensure they are in good working condition. Completes job or shift report forms as assigned, accurately documenting work performed, equipment conditions, and any issues encountered for review by supervisors. Assists with tasks from other classifications as necessary, working collaboratively with team members across different disciplines to support plant operations and maintenance. Responds to emergencies at any time, addressing urgent situations or equipment failures quickly, and being available for on-call duty as assigned. Performs all tasks safely, ensuring no accidents occur and that all work complies with environmental permits, safety protocols, and industry regulations. Effectively communicates plant equipment conditions and performance to supervisors and fellow personnel, offering suggestions for operational improvements and plant optimization. Participates in ongoing training and development, acquiring the skills necessary to transition into an IC&E Technician role, including learning to troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate instrumentation and control systems. Performs other reasonable tasks as directed by plant management, ensuring that all duties contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the facility.

Working Relationships

The Electrical Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager, while also receiving guidance and instructions from both the Operations Manager and Plant Manager.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

Regular schedule includes 10-hour workdays with rotating day shifts. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as requested and able to respond to off-hour call-ins when contacted by phone or other means of communication.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $42.00 to $57.98 per hour, and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

High school education providing foundational understanding of procedures and instructions; an Associate Degree in a technical field, especially with electrical skills, is advantageous. Proficient in electrical systems installation and maintenance, including experience with high-voltage systems, transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers. Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues, with the ability to diagnose faults, identify root causes, and execute effective solutions. Knowledge of electrical codes and standards, ensuring compliance in all installation and maintenance tasks. Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems, with the ability to learn and apply IC&E Technician skills for system calibration and maintenance. Experience with electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and high-voltage safety protocols, to ensure a safe work environment. Competent in using electrical testing equipment and tools, performing inspections, preventive maintenance, and equipment repairs with attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and work independently or as part of a team to resolve complex electrical issues. Effective communication and collaboration skills, ensuring clear interaction with supervisors, team members, and plant management to maintain plant safety and efficiency. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
