Job Description Performs difficult skilled work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical and electronic equipment, performs at a journey man level; does related work as required and in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Functions + Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, operates, and modifies, as required, all electrical motors, motor controls, electrical equipment and portable or permanent backup electric and diesel generators throughout the City + Installs, repairs, maintains, and modifies wiring of switchboard and control panels + Installs electrical equipment and systems + Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains various low and high voltage (up to 5000 volt) electrical equipment + Installs and maintains street and parking lot lighting; + Performs preventive and predictive maintenance testing of electrical equipment and systems. + Monitors performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement + Participates in emergency twenty-four (24) hour call out status rotation. + Operates heavy equipment and machinery as designated by assigned work orders, e.g., forklift, bucket truck Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to support: Generator Specialty Functions: + Electrician support includes but not limited to: generator installation, troubleshooting & diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and operation for portable or permanent backup electric and diesel generators throughout the City + Completes routine to complex skilled and technical work in the repair, maintenance and installation of generators to ensure alternate power supply is available to meet the needs of City operations + Acts as internal quality control and makes recommendations in regard to contractual expectations for generator servicing + Makes repairs and changes to switch gear and transfer switches on portable and permanent backup electric and diesel generators RELATED TASKS: + Maintains equipment records. Responsible for inventory of spare parts and initiates procurement of replacement supplies and equipment as necessary + Work closely with supervisor and third-party contractors on project progress, estimates, etc. + Plans, designs, and prepares electrical plans for building permits; + Provides materials lists for projects as needed + Promotes continuous adherence and improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices + Performs related tasks as required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: + Standard practices, tools, terminology, and functions of the electrical trade and the hazards involved + High degree of knowledge of methods and techniques to install, repair and maintain electric or diesel generator technology + Commercial power generators and large industrial power generation equipment + Electrical theory, and a thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as State and Local electrical codes and ordinances + Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as use of insulated tools and other safety related precautions + Safety hazards including but not limited to Arc Flash Hazard labels + OSHA recommendations and requirements regarding best practices while working on or near energized equipment + General office practices and procedures Skilled in: + The use of electrical maintenance, repair, and test equipment + Troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostics + Techniques necessary to determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts + Techniques necessary to determine safe clearance distances and the corresponding voltages to which the incumbent will be exposed + Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and general computer proficiency + Reading comprehension – both of routine communications as well as technical manuals, diagrams, or other work-related documents Ability to: + Work a variable five (5) day schedule within a seven (7) day week + Participate in emergency twenty-four (24) hour call out status rotation + Establish and maintain effective and positive relations with City officials, associates, consultants, and the general public + Perform essential functions and related tasks while using best judgement and application of necessary safety precautions. CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY SEIU Employees ANNUAL LEAVE: Shall accrue prior to an employee attaining permanent status in the classified service, and may be used after six (6) months of employment at the sole discretion of the Department Head, but it shall not be paid out upon resignation or termination unless the employee has attained permanent status (one full year). The maximum accrual is 360 hours. 0 to 5 full years 8 hours per month 5 to 10 full years 10 hours per month 10 to 15 full years 12 hours per month 15 years and over 14 hours per month CASH OUT OF ANNUAL LEAVE: Employees who have attained permanent status shall be permitted to cash out up to forty (40) hours of accrued and unused Annual Leave, either in a single lump sum payment or two or more partial payments, each fiscal year., each fiscal year. SICK LEAVE: 8 hours per month. Any hours in excess of 960 will be paid off annually at 50%. Upon retirement, employees with a minimum of 5 years continuous service will receive 50% of sick leave balance. HOLIDAYS: 15 per year: 12 recognized holidays and 3 floating holidays which are allocated for the fiscal year starting October 1, to all 8 hour per day employees. Employees hired between October 1 and March 31 shall receive 3 floating holidays. Employees hired between April 1 and September 30 shall receive 1.5 floating holidays. Non-task employees working 10-hour days receive 10, 10-hour paid holidays but do not receive floating holidays. FUNERAL LEAVE: Up to 3 work days - In State Up to 5 workdays - Out of State PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: A performance review(s) is given to new hires during the first year of employment and an annual review on their anniversary date. Every employee is evaluated on their anniversary date. The current ratings are: Requires Improvement, Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations, and Significantly Exceeds Expectations. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: Full-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement as outlined in the City’s Tuition Reimbursement Policy which is available in Human Resources and subject to the availability of departmental funds. MILITARY LEAVE: Members in military reserve units who attend annual training are entitled to paid leave not to exceed 30 days each calendar year.
