Title: ELECTRICIAN Location: United States-Virginia-Norfolk Job Number: 240003UW **Job Summary:** The Electrician is responsible for performing a comprehensive range of functions related to the installation, modification, and repair of the Navy Exchange's electrical systems and electrically operated equipment. **Duties and Responsibilities:** - Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, including related switches, switchgear, distribution panels, outlet boxes, and circuits, as well as a variety of electrical fixtures, motors, and electrically operated equipment. - Adheres to the maintenance schedule and performs inspections or work orders, providing maintenance services, diagnosing system or equipment malfunctions, and executing repairs as necessary. - Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts electrical circuits for buzzers and bells, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, as well as office and heating drills, grinders, and shop equipment. - Tests circuits and equipment using a voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, megger, and ohmmeter. - Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits, while inserting, splicing, and connecting wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power sources. - Performs additional related duties as assigned. **Physical Effort:** This position requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. Frequent lifting, carrying, and setting up of tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds is required, with occasional lifting of items over 20 pounds. **Working Conditions:** The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, with potential exposure to dirt and soiling of hands and clothing, as well as risks such as electric shocks, burns from high voltage, cuts, and bruises. Qualifications: **GENERAL EXPERIENCE** One year of experience that has equipped the individual with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic electrical work, including the repair of electrical wiring systems and switches. **SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE** One year of high school education may be substituted for three months of general experience, up to a total of one year of general experience for individuals holding a High School Diploma or GED. **SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE** Five years of experience that has provided the expertise to perform a comprehensive range of electrician functions related to the installation, modification, and repair of electrical systems and electrically operated equipment. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** The role requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in physically demanding and uncomfortable positions, particularly in areas that are difficult to access. Frequent lifting, carrying, and setting up of tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds is necessary, with occasional lifting of items exceeding 20 pounds.
