**UPMC Mercy is hiring a Full Time Electrician to support our facility!**
This position will work during the evening shift from 2pm-10pm.
**Purpose:**
To perform all phases of electrical work needed within the health system.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Repair, perform preventive maintenance programs, install, replace and test electrical circuits, equipment, emergency power systems, transfer switches and appliances using hand tools and testing instruments to supply electrical power for lighting and equipment operation within the Hospital, being conscious of safety hazards and cost containment efforts.
+ Inspect and test electrical lighting, signal, communications and power circuits and equipment. Isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, and voltmeter, testing lamp or growler.
+ Examine and test such elements of systems as distribution panel, ground fault systems, controls, circuit fixtures and motors to locate system failures faults.
+ Repair electrical circuits and equipment. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical system, fixtures, and appliances. Review circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.
+ Replace such defective mechanical parts as gears, bushing and bearings and such related electrical parts as brushes, armatures, commutators, and transformers, assembling components according to diagrams. Check clearance of moving parts with precision gages. Restore electrical connections to complete circuits.
+ Install new wiring and electrical machinery and properly installs wire mold. Study blueprints and single line diagrams to ascertain layout, location, and specifications of items to be installed. Changing circuit boards. Responsible for familiarization to communication systems and notified appropriate maintenance personnel of any malfunction.
+ Cut and shape conduit with hand tools and fastens it in place with brackets or similarly installs armored cable. Fasten fixtures, switches, and outlet boxes in position. Run wire through conduit and makes connections to complete circuits. Assemble, install, and connect components of switchboards and distribution panels and connects them to units controlled.
+ Mount motors, transformers, lighting fixtures or other equipment into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
+ Must carry a work provided phone while on site. Must be able to rotate all shifts, weekends, and holiday work schedules.
+ Prepare daily time sheets. Responsible for cleanup and removal of electrical equipment and supplies from work areas.
+ Must be able to move 50lbs. Must possess the ability to move throughout the facility's various buildings, roofs, tunnels and confined spaces. Must be able to perform all forms of appropriate maintenance work or repairs on various forms of ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, and safety equipment to complete work assignments at extreme heights.
+ High School graduate or equivalent.
+ Trade school or vocational school graduate preferred.
+ A four-year apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training required.
+ Must possess the ability and knowledge to operate and maintain power equipment/tools, both stationary and portable, pertaining to the maintenance field.
+ Must have good working knowledge of all electrical systems and switch gears.
+ Must be familiar with NEC and local electrical codes and NFPA.
+ Must have ability to install, replace, trace, test and troubleshoot electrical circuits.
+ Must be able to maintain and operate emergency power and associated transfer switches.
+ Must have knowledge and ability to maintain/service batteries associated with emergency lighting and emergency generators. Must be able to estimate materials needed to install electrical systems.
+ May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.
+ Must be self-motivated, good decision maker and able to deal with multiple priorities in emergency conditions.
+ Familiar with or ability to learn basic computer skills.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Electrical License for City of Pittsburgh preferred.
+ Stationary Engineer License (City of Pittsburgh) preferred.
