Responsibilities You will install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical systems, lines, circuits, associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. You will plan and lay out the work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and complete repairs/installations independently. You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the work. You will determine and place distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is:THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Repairing and installing electrical power lines/cables, outlets, fuse and breaker boxes, circuit breakers; 2) Assisting in providing electrical power for maritime/shipboard, institutional, industrial applications; 3) Working from electrical/electromechanical blueprints or schematics; 4) Operating electrical test equipment such as multimeters and ammeters. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities & Major Range/Test Facilities Base in DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where parts of the systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places requiring long periods of standing, stopping, bending, kneeling, climbing, stretching, and working in awkward, cramped, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh 20-40 pounds. Occasionally may lift moderately heavy objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed both inside and outside, and sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet or in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Subject to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
