The City of Norfolk’s Parking Division is an enterprise fund, which falls under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots and more than 500 on street spaces. The Department of General Services is seeking a qualified Electrician II for the Parking Division. The Electrician II will install and maintain lighting and electrical systems throughout the City of Norfolk. Essential Functions Installs and maintans lighting and electrical systems to include: + Locating power sources + Troubleshooting and repairing circuits + Changing ballasts in light fixtures + Replacing switches and receptacles + Replacing light fixtures or repairing internal components + Re-lamping with new LED lamps + Running new circuits for receptacles + Wiring and splicing for string lights + Installing contractors, photocells, conduits, boxes, fittings, and all wiring + Testing lightning circuits + Pulling data and communication cable + Cleaning lightning lenses + Installing time clocks + Installing new fixtures in elevators Performs other duties to include: + Hanging banners and flags + Testing and installing cameras, monitors, and television systems. + Installing telephone and data equipment + Obtaining estimates for materials and/or services and submits for purchase order by following procurement procedure. + Using work order management application (Facility Dude) to updated assigned work orders with notes, labor hours, and materials used. + Scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing work of contractors. + Following strict tool and inventory control procedures. Education/Experience Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Required: + Two years of experience as an Electrician. Preferred: + Three years of experience as an Electrician. Additional Information & Requirements + Valid Driver's License required. + State Journeyman Electrician's License required within one (1) year of employment. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00-5:00pm, 40 hours/week, occasional overtime Work Location: + Boush Street Garage, 112 W. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
