Requirements:
Grade 12 Certificate (NQF 4). Trade Test: Electrician (NQF 5). Up to 3 years’ technical and electrical maintenance experience as an Electrician in a manufacturing environment. Computer Literate. Knowledge of relevant maintenance practices; designs; methodologies; SOP’s. Housekeeping and safety principles. Wireman’s License – non-negotiable. Responsibilities:
Installation and Commissioning
Installing electrical wiring, panels, and conduits for machinery and facility infrastructure. Setting up control panels, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and motor control centres (MCCs). Ensuring proper grounding and bonding of electrical equipment. Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams. Testing and commissioning electrical systems to verify proper operation. Maintenance and Repair
Conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical equipment. Troubleshooting and repairing faulty circuits, motors, relays, and control systems. Replacing or upgrading electrical components such as circuit breakers, fuses, and switches. Maintaining lighting systems, power distribution networks, and emergency backup systems. Safety and Compliance
Ensuring compliance with local electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E). Following lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe work conditions. Inspecting and testing electrical systems for potential hazards. Keeping up-to-date documentation of electrical work and modifications. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
Using mustimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal imaging cameras, and other testing tools. Identifying and resolving issues with motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and automation systems. Diagnosing power quality problems such as voltage fluctuations, harmonics, and surges. Automation and Control Systems
Working with PLCs, SCADA systems, and HMIs to ensure seamless automation of manufacturing processes. Integrating electrical systems with robotics, conveyor systems, and other automated machinery. Assisting in software updates and programming of control systems when required.
Energy Efficiency and Optimization
Identifying opportunities to reduce energy consumption through efficient electrical practices. Assisting in the implementation of energy-saving initiatives, such as LED lighting and variable-speed drives.
