Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer (Mechanical based)

Brief Description

Sonix is seeking an experienced electro-mechanical engineer who will be responsible for designing our next generation of scanning acoustic microscope products and exploring new technologies to keep pace with the demands of our broad customer base.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design and execution of new product platforms from proof of concept to production release and will include all aspects of the product design. The successful candidate will be expected to use a wide degree of creativity to develop innovative designs and build proof of concepts to solve challenging engineering problems.

In addition to new product development, the engineer will be responsible for assisting our global service team with sustaining engineering activities to troubleshoot and resolve issues in the field.

The engineer will work closely with multiple teams including both internal and external partners.

The position will provide the opportunity for both domestic and international travel to visit vendors and customers to collaborate on designing and building next-generation solutions and getting valuable feedback.

Essential Functions:
•   Leverage strong mechanical engineering and system design experience to design rapid prototypes and develop complete mechanical systems for new product platforms. Ability to create mechanical 3D models and production 2D drawings to support system designs, and manufacturing techniques to turn concepts into production-ready solutions.
•   Leverage knowledge of motion control systems (robots, servo motors, linear motors, encoders, drives, etc.) to support electrical designs that have the required performance, accuracy, and repeatability to ensure product reliability and robustness.
•   Ability to build systems that combine different engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and fluid dynamics and incorporate the necessary safety systems to comply with relevant certifications
• Lead/facilitate cross-functional meetings as needed to brainstorm creative solutions, troubleshoot problems, and ensure projects are on track.
•   Report project status to the management team regularly, identify risks and issues that may impact schedules and suggest countermeasures to ensure project timelines are maintained.
•   Visit customers to gain insight into how our tools are used and learn how they can be improved to meet and exceed customer expectations both now and in the future.
•   Support full product lifecycle management and responsibility for transitioning products from engineering to production and service to support standard products.
•   Manage system certifications to ensure the system is engineered to meet safety guidelines relevant to the market/countries we sell to and conformance to ISO standards.
•   Ensure release and project documentation is current, complete, and located in the proper repository.
•   Train production and field service personnel to ensure support for new product platforms and features.


Education and Experience Required:
•   Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a highly technical environment, with a background in industrial mechatronics systems, automation, robotics, and motion control systems.
•   Experience with designing semiconductor equipment a strong plus
•   Experience designing equipment to work in a cleanroom environment a strong plus
•   Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
•   Experienced in using AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D modeling skills.
•   Solid mechanics and vibration analysis experience with industrial measurement equipment such as DAQ systems, oscilloscopes, laser interferometers, and National Instrument devices.
•   Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
•   Experience in technical project management including maintaining schedules and interfacing with cross-functional team members throughout the project lifecycle a plus
•   Good time management, organizational and ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects at once
•   Strong commitment to quality, attention to detail, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
•   Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), listening & leadership skills.
•   Proficient with MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
