The Advanced Sensor Systems and Test Beds Group (Group 33) conducts exciting research in the development and demonstration of advanced sensor systems and command and control (C2) architectures for the U.S. Government. The Group incorporates emerging technologies in sensing concepts, autonomy, distributed systems, signal and data processing algorithms, and open architectures into system design concepts, enabling innovative solutions to complex problems. Major activities within the group include RF and optical system design and development, system modeling and simulation, signal processing algorithm development, experimental field testing and data analysis, and development of one-of-a-kind operational and experimental test assets. The group believes in collaborative research, and has expertise in multiple technical fields including radar systems analysis, adaptive sensor array and signal processing, RF and optical systems, HF radar and communications, integration and test, embedded programming, real-time software techniques, signal and detection estimation, Kalman filtering, CFAR detection, bistatic radar, real-time signal processing. Our technical staff members hold advanced degrees in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, and computer science. The group also conducts local, national, and international field testing and data collection to prove new concepts for real-time prototype implementation, experiment execution, and systems analysis.
Job Description
An individual who assists in laboratory or research work and operates experimental and technical equipment under the supervision of scientific personnel or technicians of higher grade. Must be able to work for periods of time without supervision. This individual will support the Group’s research activities, providing electro- mechanical fabrication services including basic design, fabrication, installation and operation of highly technical ground and airborne assets developed and maintained by the Group. The candidate will support construction and/or assembly of mechanical components, integration of experimental systems into racks, aircraft and other vehicles as well as ground-based field site operations. The individual will travel periodically on deployments to support test installations, conduct field repairs, and de-install test equipment. The candidate will be comfortable operating technical and machining equipment and have extensive knowledge and familiarity with power tools and shop skills including drilling, tapping holes, metal cutting, etc. In addition, the selected individual will help maintain our Integration Lab.
Requirements:
Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent in applicable experience is the minimum experience requirement. Demonstrated mechanical fabrication and assembly skill-set. Ability to perform work with minimal supervision at the flight facility and during field tests. Comfortable operating equipment and power tools. Ability to travel on deployments to support test installations and post event cleanup. Ability to obtain DOT certified driver’s license (Box Truck, Trailer, etc.) desired. Ability to obtain tower climbing certification and overhead crane license desired.
