The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. Through our own skills and those of our partners—including universities and research labs around the world—we’re able to put vision in motion. While we are a part of LM's space division, our technologies are far-reaching across domains. ATC’s story is written in the success of missions here on Earth and far, far into space.
The ATC is seeking an Electro-Optical Engineer with expertise in the design and development of line-of-sight (LOS) control systems for passive and active electro-optical systems. You should have experience in the design and modeling of pointing and LOS control systems for passive and/or active electro-optical systems, familiarity with current state-of-the-art in these systems and experience with the characterization and optimization of beam direction and LOS control for optical systems.
Additional knowledge of related laser-based remote sensing technologies and/or directed energy systems is desired.
Some of your responsibilities in this role will include the following:
• Control system architecture design and implementation for ground-based, airborne, missile, and/or spacecraft electro-optical systems.
• Familiarity with advanced control and stabilization concepts.
• Selection of optical line-of-sight control technologies
• Familiarity with dynamics, trajectories and position navigation and timing (PNT)
• LOS performance prediction through computational modeling and analysis
• LOS system laboratory testing and experimental demonstration
• LOS system prototype development
• System analysis and integration
• Field demonstration
• Contribution to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals is expected.
We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a genuine interest in these subjects and who is eager to work with respected experts in the field as well as mentor more junior engineers. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work effectively and thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Basic Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience with LOS control systems design and/or analysis for fielded aerospace electro-optical systems (ground, airborne, maritime, space).
• Demonstrated experience with electro-optical sensors and/or optical systems.
• Math background to include linear algebra, matrix math, and/or 3D coordinate transforms.
• Fluency with modeling & simulation/visualization tools such as MATLAB, Simulink and/or Mathematica.
• Real-time software programming (e.g.: C/C++ or similar) experience.
• Current Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI access.
Desired Skills:
• PhD in relevant discipline.
• Knowledge/experience with control system including line-of-sight (LOS) pointing, fast steering mirrors, gimbal systems, adaptive optics systems, jitter/beamwalk controls, target acquisition and tracking.
• Experience with filtering, estimation and tracking (Kalman filtering, Multi-Target Tracking).
• Knowledge/experience with multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) controls and advanced control methods.
• Autonomy enabled control solutions.
• Experience in the development of new technologies, driving new concept formulation and development through to demonstration of the concept in prototype testing and/or field testing.
• Current TS/SCI clearance.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
