Electroencephalography Technician

This clinical staff position will have an impact on improving patient and physician satisfaction by providing the best possible experience for our patient as well as performing and preparing accurate EEG testing and reports for Neurologist’s interpretation. **Job Description:** **QUALIFICATIONS:** **Education/Experience:** **Required:** + High School Diploma or G.E.D. + Completion of a clinical training course from an American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians approved school, successful completion of a national recognized accredited Polysomnographer program or equivalent on the job training **Preferred:** At least one year of EEG Tech experience **Other Skills/Knowledge:** **Required:** + Basic Computer Skills. + For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, and fellow members of the hospital team **LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:** **Required:** N/A **Preferred:** Certification by American Society of Electroencephalogram Technician **LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:** Basic Life Support **POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:** Neonate, Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics **OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:** **Professional Commitment Requirements:** Keep abreast of developments in the field and/or licensure through continuing education, participation in professional organizations or a combination of both **On-call:** N/A **Schedule requirements:** N/A **Travel requirements:** N/A **REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:** + Reports to the Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services + Not responsible for supervising the work of others **JOB FUNCTIONS** Consistent with the WE CARE principles and inherent in a hospital environment, employees must be flexible in meeting patients’ and the Hospital’s needs. As part of the Cardiopulmonary team, the EEG Technician: + Gathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders for specific tests. + Explains testing procedure to patients. + Prepares equipment for use by calibrating equipment required for testing, verifying proper functions and making adjustments as necessary. + Applies electrodes and sensors to patient according to guidelines. + Performs inpatient or outpatient EEG study and monitors patient for proper function of all EEG channels throughout the study. + Performs inpatient EEG by going to patient units including complex areas such as operating room, ICU, and emergency room. + Assists in the preparation and transcription of reports for physician interpretation. + Cleans and disinfects all equipment. + Assists with scheduling patient for procedures, answering departments, and filing of medical records. + Inputs patient charges and other pertinent information into the meditech system. + Communicates and collaborates with referring physician and neurology staff to review tests and availability. **DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS** Neonates, infants and pediatrics: + Informs and involves the family throughout the process **PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS** + The employee needs to have the physical and mental abilities to perform the duties of the position listed above using the WE CARE behaviors. + It is anticipated that employee will have contact with potentially hazardous chemicals while performing their job duties. + It is anticipated that the employee will have contact with blood, bodily fluids or other potentially infectious materials while performing their job duties. + The list below is intended to describe the physical and sensory ability requirements of the position; however those requirements may vary, sometimes considerably, based on meeting patient and operational needs. **As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
